Summary of Role The engineering division comprises four functional teams mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, RF engineering, systems engineering. This job description covers the specific requirements for the position of Mechanical Engineer. The Mechanical Engineering team is responsible for realizing the mechanical, structural and thermal elements of COM DEV Europes products, which are captured in engineering drawings and data packs that are released to manufacture. The primary purpose of the role is to carry out mechanical engineering design and analysis. This includes product and prototype concept definition, assessment of specification compliancy and associated cost estimation. Key Tasks Analyzing the mechanical, structural and thermal aspects of a customer specification at the concept stages of design and confirms that the technical requirements can be met. This requires the use of mechanical CAD tools, finite element analysis techniques and analytical calculations where appropriate. Carrying out product conceptualization and cost, risk and technical analysis, in order to determine the detail design approach to meet customer requirements, as part of a multidisciplinary team. Defining the product mechanical, structural and thermal test regimes. Performing calculations modeling as necessary with reasoning in order to qualify and quantify the design approach. Producing detail drawings with support from Mechanical Design Draughtsman. Preparing defined documentation capturing the key aspects of the design for peer review and updating documentation as changes are made Assisting in maintaining and developing design standards and supporting continual improvement Ensuring work is carried out within the Com Dev quality system Qualifications and skills A degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Good communicator with ability to instill trust and confidence at all levels A good working knowledge and commitment to working within a quality control system specific to achieving high reliability products. A good working knowledge and commitment to working within a project management system focused on achieving on time and to budget project delivery. Able to interact well with other technical disciplines, developing an understanding of relevant critical factors. A detailed knowledge of relevant design, manufacturing processes and materials, ideally within the aerospace sector. Excellent mechanical design and analysis skills, demonstrated through a minimum of 4 years experience in product design. Proficient in standard office software applications including MS Project. Solid modeling skills to recognized ISO standards, ideally using ProEngineer. Experience of CAD file management systems, ideally using ProEngineer Intralink Windchill. Dynamic mechanicalstress analysis using finite element modeling software, ideally using IDEAS Model Solutions. Thermal analysis using analytical and finite element techniques, ideally using IDEAS Model Solutions. Ideally, experience of thermal, vibration and shock testing of complex structures.
