For the location in Darmstadt Germany we are looking for a Meteorological Product Software Engineer at EUMETSAT. Tasks The Consultant shall work in the Remote Sensing and Products Divisions RSP Atmospheric and Imagery Applications group AIA. The Consultant shall analyse, support the design, operational implementation and validation of the agreed changes to product algorithms. Similarly, the Consultant shall support the design, implementation and validation of new product algorithms. The work is carried out in small project teams consisting of relevant experts. The Consultant will also be involved in the analysis and resolution of anomalies relating to the product generation software. The tasks of the Consultant will typically include Analysis of product change proposals Design, implementation and validation of updatednew algorithms Documentation of changes related to product updates Preparation of technical notes on product implementation issues Development, maintenance and update of product generation monitoring software and the corresponding database Monitoring and operating the product generation facilities Visualisation and analysis of geophysical products Essential requirements In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, such as computer science, physics, mathematics or remote sensing, the Consultant shall have minimum of 5 years of experience in operational product generation from satelliteremote sensing data. In addition, the Consultant shall have experience in validation of geophysical products from satellite data. Furthermore, the Consultant shall have practical, demonstrable experience with Algorithm software development using FORTRAN 9095 in a Unix environment Implementation of scientific algorithms from a given specification Source code control systems, preferably Subversion Anomaly correction and configuration management processes Python and IDL programming languages Common meteorological data formats, like BUFR, CAP, GRIB, HDF5, and netCDF UnixLinux operating systems Desirable requirements Practical, demonstrable experience of the following will be advantageous Relational databases using SQL Algorithm software development using CC programming language Authoring clear and concise technical documentation Other Information Start date is 1st January 2015 Fluency in English is mandatory Candidates must be an EU citizen or hold a valid German work and residence visa To ensure your application reaches us please apply online at httpwww.scisys.despacejobs
