We are ready to start testing the data anticipated from our third generation meteorological satellite system and are looking for you to join our team! Are you inspired by the idea of working in a global operational satellite agency based in the heart of Europe? We are currently developing the Meteosat Third Generation MTG meteorological satellite system in cooperation with the European Space Agency ESA. This is one of our larger future satellite programmes and it is entering a critical phase. This is a unique opportunity to work with our partners in developing and running test schedules to ensure the accurate flow of data from the space to ground segment. You will be working in the MTG System Engineering Team, reporting to the Instrument Functional Chain Team Leader. You will lead the development of the scientific test data needed for ground segment and system testing. Managing this project will be very demanding. You will need to be a strong team player with the ability to coordinate a test schedule and then evaluate its outcomes with your fellow experts. With a strong analytical focus, you will interpret complex data sets and make sound decisions based on the information that you capture. Your duties will involve identifying and planning the production of scientific test data sets. This will require you to procure resources and to manage established service contracts including kickoff and regular progress meetings, delivery reviews, monitoring and reporting. You will also be required to identify critical issues and propose both preventive and corrective measures. Along with a university degree in engineering or a scientifically relevant subject, you should be a collaborative team member with experience in the development, validation and use of scientific test data, preferably in the areas of earth observation or remote sensing. You should have an ability to plan, coordinate and monitor parallel developments of test data, involving scientists and engineers. Experience in the use and development of data formats, especially NetCDF and BUFR would be an advantage as would some experience in the development of software for test data manipulation. EUMETSAT provides an outstanding working environment in Darmstadt, the City of Science. We can support new staff with relocation and childcare advice, if you are new to the area. All applicants must be EUMETSAT member state nationals with a good working knowledge of the English language, both spoken and written. You also require some knowledge of French. EUMETSAT is committed to providing an equal opportunities work environment for men and women. Closing date is the 27th June 2017 with interviews provisionally booked for wc 30th July 2017.
