This vacancy note concerns an onsite consulting position at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany. Metop Spacecraft Operations Engineering support 1313062 Job Description The selected candidate will be integrated into the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team, led by the Metop Spacecraft Operations Manager, within the Flight Operations Division of the Operations and User Services Department. Typical tasks include Support to the routine operations of Metop A, B and preparing for MetopC, comprising Provision of operational expertise to one or more platform subsystems andor payload instruments Maintain the corresponding operations documentation and flight procedures, including the update and operational validation of procedures releases in a configuration controlled environment Perform trending and performance analysis on the corresponding subsystems and instruments, including definition and possibly prototyping of additional analysis checks where necessary Investigations into satellite anomalies. This may require a close cooperation with the Operations Support Entity in ESTEC and Industry Participation in the satellite oncall support Identification and support to implementation of system and process improvements concerning the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team responsibilities and interfaces. Support to the system and operations preparation of Metop Second Generation satellites Provide inputs and or review the definition of system and satellite operational concepts Review space to ground interface specifications and flight operations manuals Support the definition of tools and processes required to prepare for and operate the satellites. Support to the system and operations preparation of other LEO satellites Sentinel3 and Jason CS development. Required Skills and Experience University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline Spacecraft monitor and control operations Low Earth Orbit spacecraft design or Assembly Integration and Test activities at system or subsystem level Strong data analysis, processing and synthesis skills Good communication skills The working language is English and therefore the candidate must be able to work effectively in English Desirable Skills and Experience Inorbit operations of Low Earth Orbit Earth Observation satellites Experience in the operation or development of satellite ground segment facilities, in particular procedure development, monitor and control, mission planning, onboard software management, performance analysis, configuration management and simulator facilities. Specification of system and operational concepts, facility requirements Familiarity with system change control and configuration management procedures Data analysis software packages such as MATLAB File parsing languages such as PERL, AWK Use of VBA for development of adhoc tools in MS Office applications Ability to work in an organised and efficient manner with minimum supervision Ability to recognise opportunities for improvements in areas of work and implement appropriate solutions Knowledge of French Work Location Darmstadt, Germany Dates Application Deadline 28 August 2013 Start of Work 01 January 2014 Important Notes Before applying to this position, please read the page Notes to Applicants on the Solenix website under Career.
