If so please send your CV and covering letter to aliebigthornsds.eu by the 15th December 2017 Thorn SDS is a technical service provider operating within the European Space sector based in Darmstadt, Germany. We provide highly skilled engineers, technicians and managers to manage, operate and maintain critical services, often embedding the staff within our clients operation. Our customer the European Space Agency ESAESOC manages a global network of satellite ground stations and hosts a suite of IT and communications infrastructure computers, networks, datacentres to support this. These ground stations and computer infrastructure enable ESAs missions to communicate and command their spacecraft and to receive data for science and critical applications. We are responsible for supporting the Operations Centre that manages this infrastructure, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, and are building a shift team to continue this work for the next five years. We welcome applications from technicians who can bring IT skills and a broad knowledge of computers and network support to the role. You should be committed to continued professional and personal development as the technical requirements of the role are constantly changing with the improvement to systems and there is a continual drive to increase the capability of the 1st and 2nd line support teams. A background in in technical network operations and maintenance, gained in a Telecommunications, IT, Broadcasting or Satellite ground station environment combined with a solid theoretical knowledge of telecommunication, network, and radio principles would be ideal but quick learners with a broad IT background are also encouraged to apply. This is very much a customer facing role so a great attitude to client services, positive work ethic and approach are essential. Tasks will be many varied and will include Monitoring the health and availability of the remote satellite ground station network. Providing continuous realtime monitoring of the local computer network, responding to events, and resolving problems wherever possible Configuring the communication links in line with planned satellite pass requirements Providing an effective 247 Service Desk Helpdesk service to our clients via voice loop, telephone, and email. Monitoring and managing the progression of first line support tickets Monitoring the correct realtime operation of ground stations during passes Providing progress updates on network first line incidents to customers and service users Monitoring the progress of station configurations for satellite passes through voice coordination or remote monitoring systems, where available Establishing and maintain logical data links between the spacecraft control system and the ground station subsystems using the relevant network systems. Acting as a focal point for collecting and processing information about incidents. Creating high quality incident and anomaly reports in support of performance and quality improvement Initiating 2nd3rd line support team callouts where appropriate. Providing support to incident or anomaly investigations Managing and initiate escalation procedurese.g. for security incidents or major operations incidents endangering human or spacecraft safety In addition to an attractive salary and benefits package, Thorn SDS provides an outstanding working environment in Darmstadt, the City of Science.
