RHEA is currently recruiting an OnBoard Embedded Software Engineer to work within the Advanced Studies team on transnational planetary exploration robotic projects and being an expert for the Data Processing OnBoard Software department at our clients premises in Stevenage, United Kingdom. Tasks and Activities You will be involved in a number of transnational planetary exploration robotic projects, focussing on all aspects of data processing and software engineering. The team specialises in robotic engineering topics, including robotic control operating systems, computer vision, telerobotics, autonomous systems validation, planetary locomotion systems, robotic arms, humanrobot interaction, and humanmachine interface. The scope of work will include Developing software to demonstrate new dataprocessing techniques Design and implement prototype realtime software, to implement various signal and data processing functions onboard the space platform Implement software for Space Agency and internal RD contracts, based on a set of software requirements e.g. for custom space network protocols, image processing, fault tolerant mechanisms Commission and bring up new embeddedprocessor boards, including design and implementation of board Basic Software Define and implement PCbased software for support and verification of software implemented on embedded processors, including GUI Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory University Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Robotics Mechatronics Electronics Engineering, with a strong software engineering component Minimum 2 years of experience in realtime embedded software engineering Proven experience in developing software using ANSIC, C Handson experience of realtime embedded Operating Systems RTOS Handson experience of using Windows, UNIX, Linux operating systems Handson experience in HWSW low level interfaces, drivers, and embedded software development Handson experience with the development of robotic systems in one or more of the following speciality areas Robotic Control Operating Systems RCOS, machine vision, control, kinematics dynamics, path planning and navigation, manipulation, humanrobot interaction, artificial intelligence and machine learning Handson experience with any of the following types of systems is highly beneficial embedded, realtime, multithread, multiprocessormulticore Ability to work with minimum supervision, strives for improvement, results oriented, strives for team individual goals Effective at working in a multidisciplinary team, excellent presentation skills, ability to work under pressure, open, honest and flexible Excellent level of English communication, both written oral The following skills would be highly desirable Experience using Eclipse, Cygwin, configuration control e.g. CVS, SVN, Git, Clearcase, DOORS, Doxygen Experience using GCC toolchain, or similar Experience using RTOS variants, such as RTEMS, XtratuM, PikeOS, Xenomai, RTAI Experience with space network protocols e.g. MILSTD 1553B, CAN, SpaceWire, SpaceFibre, TTEthernet Experience with programming specification languages Java, Perl, Python, Unix shell scripting, Matlab, UML, SysML Experience with libraries OpenCV, Boost, OpenGL, GNU Scientific Library Experience with the development of advanced data signal processing systems hardware andor software and algorithms e.g. FIR, FFT for space applications Experience with FPGA programming VHDL language Familiarity with processor benchmarking techniques.
