For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for a Product Operations Engineer to support routine operations of the Meteosat Second Generation MSG, Meteosat Transition MTP and EUMETSAT Polar System EPS programmes. The key person shall work in the Real time services and System Operations RSO division of the OPS department as a member of the Data Processing Operations DPO team, supporting the operations of the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems. The key person shall also support the operations preparations for future MSG and EPS spacecraft and the preparations for the Meteosat Third Generation programme. Heshe may support the further development of the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems. The tasks will be carried out mainly at EUMETSAT facilities in Darmstadt, but travel within Europe may be required for certain activities. Tasks and Responsibilities The tasks of the key person will include Support to routine operations involving the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems this includes o Monitoring and reporting on the performance of the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems and the quality and availability of the MSG and MTP Level 1 and Level 2 products and EPS Level 0 to Level 2 products o Investigating anomalies relating to the performance of the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems and the quality and availability of the MSG and MTP Level 1 and Level 2 and EPS Level 0 to Level 2 products o Preparing and reviewing technical documentation relating to data processing operations o Providing standby callout support Support to the further development of the MSG and EPS data processing systems, including the specification and validation of system updates Support to the preparation of operational monitoring for future MSG and EPS spacecrafts Support for the operations preparation for future programmes, e.g. Meteosat Third Generation MTG and EUMETSAT Polar System 2nd Generation EPS 2G Participation in technical meetings Participation in formal reviews. Requirements Essentials In addition to having a university degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the key person shall have a minimum of 3 years of experience in the operational use and quality control of geophysical data. Specifically, the key person shall have the following mandatory skills Significant experience in the verification and validation of operational data processing systems Experience with UNIXLinux operating systems Experience with production monitoring and reporting Experience with configuration control of software and data Experience with Oracle databases and SQL. Desirables It would be a distinct advantage for the key person to have experience with the following Imaging and sounding instrumentation for remote sensing spacecraft Programming Languages e.g. C, C and Fortran Scripting Languages e.g. Perl, Python, shell Spacecraft andor ground segment operations Operational use and quality control of satellite data. The key person shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the key person must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other. Good communication skills are essential for the fulfilment of the tasks requiring interaction.
