ACTIVITIES The Engineer will have the following responsibilities Support to routine operations involving the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing Systems that includes o Monitoring and reporting on the performance of the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems and the quality and availability of the MSG and MTP Level 1 and Level 2 products and EPS Level 0 to Level 2 products o Investigating anomalies relating to the performance of the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems and the quality and availability of the MSG and MTP Level 1 and Level 2 and EPS Level 0 to Level 2 products o Preparing and reviewing technical documentation relating to data processing operations o Providing standby callout support Support to the further development of the MSG and EPS data processing systems, including the specification and validation of system updates Support to the preparation of operational monitoring for future MSG and EPS spacecrafts Support for the operations preparation for future programmes, e.g. Meteosat Third Generation MTG and EUMETSAT Polar System 2nd Generation EPS 2G Participation in technical meetings Participation in formalreviews. PROFILE The Engineer shall have a University degree in a relevant engineering discipline. The Engineer shall have a 3 years of experience minimum in the operational use and quality control of geophysical data. Specifically, the Engineer shall have the following mandatory skills Significant experience in the verification and validation of operational data processing systems Experience with UNIXLinux operating systems Experience with production monitoring and reporting Experience with configuration control of software and data Experience with Oracle databases and SQL. It would be considered a distinct advantage for the Engineer to have experience with the following Imaging and sounding instrumentation for remote sensing spacecraft Programming Languages e.g. C, C and Fortran Scripting Languages e.g. Perl, Python, shell Spacecraft andor ground segment operations Operational use and quality control of satellite data. The Engineer shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision. The working language for the position is English and therefore the Engineer must be able to work effectively in this language, together with good communication skills. Close date 27102014
