The Mission Our customer is an independent intergovernmental organisation created in 1986 to establish, maintain and exploit European systems of operational meteorological satellites. Around 300 staff and a similar number of consultants are working on location in Darmstadt, Germany, cooperating in the operation of a variety of geostationary weather satellites and low earth orbiting observation platforms. The Challenge We are looking for an experienced System Engineer Mission Control Operations to be located at the customer site in Darmstadt, Germany. The System Engineer would join Terma GmbHs activity as a full time employee, supporting the routine ground segment operations of our customers lowearth orbiting and geostationary satellites as well as contributing to operational preparation for future missions. Tasks are likely to include Definition and maintenance of missioncontrol operations procedures, including system and ground segment procedures and operations guides Liaison with relevant personnel to ensure continuity and optimisation of activities related to such areas as monitoring and control, operational databases, external data exchanges, operational performance and change implementation Support for operational ground segment analyses Analysis and resolution of system anomalies Support for system upgrades and modifications Participation in functional verification and operational validation of mission control systems Support for development and operational preparation of the launch of new models of currently operating satellites, as well as for new platformspayloads Support for operational personnel training. Some limited standby and oncall duties outside of normal hours may be required, for instance to assist in critical operations. This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date of November 2013. Your Qualifications Applicants shall have a university degree in a relevant technical discipline, preferably in aerospace, electronics or physics or other suitable qualification together with some professional experience in spacecraft andor operational applications. Essential skills are A university degree in a relevant technical discipline 7 years professional experience in the operation of spacecraft control systems 5 years professional experience developing andor maintaining spacecraft mission control systems software 5 years user experience developing andor maintaining software for the UNIX operating system 2 years professional experience with the SCOS spacecraft control system 2 years professional experience defining and implementing verification and validation of spacecraft mission control systems software Fluency in English, both in speech and writing is mandatory. Desirable skills are 3 years professional experience in the use of databases and SQL related querying in relation to spacecraft mission control systems 3 years professional experience in the definition, development, integration and acceptance testing of spacecraft mission control systems 3 years professional experience in the operations preparation and routine operations of Geostationary GEO and Low Earth Orbit LEO satellite systems Experience of using configuration management systems such as CVS experience of using satellite simulators Familiarity with ECSS and CCSDS standards related to spaceto ground interfaces and applicable to Satellite Monitoring Control Systems Familiarity with Packet Telemetry and Telecommand standards, PUS Packet Utilisation Standard, etc. Familiarity with flight dynamics and mission planning functions and systems as applied to satellite operations Familiarity with EPOCH IPS MC product suite from Integral Systems now Kratos Familiarity with both the Windows and Linux operating systems Some experience in leading a small team of engineers Previous knowledge of the MSG ground segment andor the EPS overall ground system Previous experience with the MSG central facility andor the EPS mission control system andor the mission control facility andor multimission tools Specific knowledge of the EUMETSAT missions MSG, EPS, EPSSG and Sentinel3 Previous successful consultancy to EUMETSAT or engagement with other, similar organisation Knowledge of quality management and maintenance procedures as implemented at EUMETSAT Basic ability with the French language. A goal oriented attitude with a good level of communication skills and the ability to work effectively and independently in a flexible integrated team, including during periods of high pressure are all among the traits we are looking for. You would be working in a multinational environment and you would need fluency in English, the working language.
