Reporting to the Director of the Future Satellite System Group, the incumbent will be responsible for performing technical studies towards the optimisation of the communication mission and system performance of the future generation satellites in which Eutelsat is involved. These satellites include those in the definition phase, in production and in the operational phase. The technical studies shall consider the trade off between the best performance and practical issues such as complexity, ease of implementation, development risk and implementation cost. He shall also be able to appreciate the commercial and operational requirements. Thus, the incumbent shall have a good awareness of the capabilities of current analogue and digital technologies satellite payloads. The incumbent shall tackle the assigned technical problems by the most efficient means including mathematical analysis, computer simulation and experimentation. Heshe is expected to maintain a high level of computer literacy and to exploit existing computer facilities to the full. RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct system analysis for dimensioning, specifying and assessing communication mission requirementsperformance, including link analysis for analogue and digital systems in operational scenarios including propagation impairment analysis, communication mission performance assessment, including coverage related parameters, analysis to assess the impact of a communication chain impairments, e.g. filtering, linearity, intermodulation etc. intersystem and intrasystem interference network considerations for the assessment of system capacity and efficiency and system cost assessment and cost tradeoffs. Conduct analysis of digital systems potentially employing onboard processors in order to assess the performance, apportion of complexity between the earth and the space segments and assess the technology feasibility and tradeoffs of such systems. Capable of producing technical performance requirements for the communication mission from the commercial and operational requirements. Capable of assessing the impact of the user requirements on the hardware particularly when involving the communication mission. All technical studies shall be documented as internal technical reports. In addition, the incumbent shall contribute, where necessary, in the preparation of formal technical documents e.g. Contractual Technical Annexes. The incumbent must be able to work independently and contribute in working groups. He must also be capable of communicate and liase with other groups and divisions within and outside the Engineering Department. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE University degree or higher in communication engineering or related fields, At least eight years experience in satellite communications engineering andor digital signal processing in the frame of satellite engineering, Perfect knowledge of one of the official languages of EUTELSAT English and French and good knowledge of the other. Another European language would be useful.
