A vacancy for a Systems Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Stevenage.You will be part of the Systems Engineering team. This team is responsible for the provision of support to project delivery, installation of services across all Airbus Defence and Space owned sites and at customer sites as applicable, support for the provision of Network Management Systems and Fault Management System infrastructure implementation. The Systems Engineer will typically engage at the preparation for CDR stage of the project.The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs.Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Liaison with customer, SDA and project manager to capture all user and system requirements in order to define the service requirements specification. The role holder will not lead these discussions but may be involved and will be expected to assist in maintaining correct and regular communication. Create full system design extrapolating from PDR design documents, including the creation of system concept model if applicable and all relevant documentation. The role holder will not own the design but will be expected to coordinate and develop the documentation pack in line with good engineering practise and company processes. Understanding the network design and concepts is key to development. Implement test the service including provision of oversight for installation activities. Systems engineers are expected to support installation at any of our customers sites. As a result overseas travel is to be expected.The role holder will be expected to be one of the project team and attend installation locations. Opportunities to attend in theatre locations may be limited due to operational requirements however. They will be expected to run test scripts and keep detailed records. They will also be working with installation teams to fit and cable up the equipment, and raise documentation in line with engineering processes. Development and ownership of Design documentation required for CDR and FsDR, including detailed design document, dialling plans etc. The role holder will not be the lead designer but will be expected to support the Systems Engineer and develop the documentation pack in line with good engineering practise and company processes. Liaising with relevant Network Management Service teams to produce a suitable fault management solution, and or billing solutions as appropriate. The role holder will be expected to assist the NMS teams and gain understanding of the supporting network and applications. Lead the VVT stage of the project coordinating support from other groups as necessary.The role holder will support the lead engineer in this area. Provide support for the service transition into operations, from FsDR to Phase 6, ensuring that suitable handovers are provided to relevant operational staff. The role holder will enable knowledge transfer by supporting workshops and developing documentation and training packs. Supporting Incident Management escalations providing diagnosis and recommendations.The role holder may assist in this area as specific knowledge is acquired.Travel is expected to the Ground Station installations on a frequent basis. As part of the role there will also be a requirement to travel to customer installations overseas.We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Degree in IT with practical exposure to the IT, Telecoms or Satellite Communications industries would be desirable. Must have demonstrable knowledge of IP, VOIP, Encryption, Networks and MPLS systems. Knowledge and use of Encryption devices including DCAP, Mini Catapan and Ectocrypt. Knowledge of Satellite communications systems would be desirable. Knowledge of Serial Communication Protocols would be desirable. Knowledge of test methods for the above mentioned technologies. Moving forward a formal CISCO professional qualification will be the target and sponsored by the company CCNACCNP. Good report writing skills and general communication.
