Post Thermal Analysis and Verification Engineer This post is classified A2A4 on the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. Location ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands Description The Thermal Analysis and Verification Section provides technical support to ESA projects and carries out technological research RD in the fields of thermal analysis tools and methods. It is responsible for the Mechanical Systems Laboratory, which provides support to ESA projects and external customers in the area of thermal and mechanical verification mainly based on experimental methods. Duties Reporting to the Head of Section and within the abovementioned technical fields, the postholders main tasks and responsibilities will include providing technical support and consultancy to ESA projects for the development and verification of smallscale spacecraft, payloads and instruments by testing in the laboratory performing various thermal analyses in coordination with the Thermal Control Section supporting Laboratory activities in defining, planning and performing tests and experiments in the thermal and mechanical domain in support of ESA projects and external thirdparty customers in compliance with agreed specifications developing and validating innovative test methods and improving existing test methods and procedures, test setups and facilities in order to maintain test quality and reliability in line with customer expectations providing support to projects and external customers, where required, on experimental verification methods in the thermalmechanical area support for establishing test specifications contributing to the definition and implementation of ESAs technology RD programmes, with emphasis on thermal analysis and verification methods participating in project reviews and evaluation of procurement proposals contributing to the dissemination of the results of the activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency. Technical competencies General background and experience in the technical domains covered by the position Understanding of related technologies, RD trends and the industrial landscape Project support experience in a relevant domain Experience with laboratory or field testing of relevant technical equipment Knowledge of laboratory quality and maintenance systems, e.g. ISO 170259001 Experience in the preparation of procurement activities for technology development and innovation e.g. statements of work, proposal evaluation Experience in the management and monitoring of industrial activities, including participation in reviews Behavioural competencies Communication Customer focus Innovation creativity Problem solving Results orientation Planning organisation Additional requirements Applicants should have good knowledge and practical experience of experimental test methods for space applications in the thermalmechanical fields and the related technologies, i.e. vacuum techniques, vibration, cryogenics and data acquisition, together with experience of thermal analysis. Good knowledge of spacecraft systems and subsystems in the thermalmechanical area is an asset. Education Masters degree or equivalent qualification in thermalmechanical engineering. Other information For behavioural competencies expected from ESA staff in general, please refer to the ESA Competency Framework. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset. The Agency may require applicants to undergo selection tests.
