SUMMARY OF WATCHES AND WARNINGS IN EFFECT: There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 900 AM MDT (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Depression Bud was located near latitude 25.3 North, longitude 110.0 West. The depression is moving toward the north near 12 mph (19 km/h) and this motion is expected to continue through early Saturday. On the forecast track, the center of Bud is expected to move inland over southern Sonora by tonight. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts. Bud is expected to become a remnant low by tonight and dissipate on Saturday. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1002 mb (29.59 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- RAINFALL: Bud is expected to produce 2 to 4 inches of rain with isolated totals of 6 inches across southern and eastern Sonora in northwestern Mexico through Saturday. These rains could cause life-threatening flash floods and mud slides. An additional 1 to 2 inches of rain are possible in southern portions of Baja California Sur. Remnant moisture from Bud is expected to produce 1 to 2 inches of rain with isolated totals of 3 inches across the southwestern U.S. into the southern and central Rockies through Saturday. These rains could cause life-threatening flash floods and mud slides. WIND: Wind gusts to tropical storm force are possible today along the coast of mainland Mexico in northern Sinaloa and southern Sonora states. SURF: Swells generated by Bud will continue to affect portions of the coast of western mainland Mexico during the next day or so. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Please consult products from your local weather office.
