DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 500 AM AST (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Karl was located near latitude 37.5 North, longitude 53.5 West. Karl is moving toward the northeast near 46 mph (74 km/h) and this general motion is expected to continue through today. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 70 mph (110 km/h) with higher gusts. Some additional strengthening is forecast during the next 24 hours, and Karl is expected to be at hurricane intensity when it becomes a post-tropical cyclone later today. The post-tropical cyclone will be absorbed by a large extratropical low tonight or early Monday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 185 miles (295 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 990 mb (29.24 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- None.
