SUMMARY OF 800 PM PDT...0300 UTC...INFORMATION ---------------------------------------------- LOCATION...17.4N 129.9W ABOUT 1350 MI...2170 KM WSW OF THE SOUTHERN TIP OF BAJA CALIFORNIA MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS...70 MPH...110 KM/H PRESENT MOVEMENT...N OR 10 DEGREES AT 7 MPH...11 KM/H MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE...992 MB...29.30 INCHES WATCHES AND WARNINGS -------------------- There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 800 PM PDT (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Kristy was located near latitude 17.4 North, longitude 129.9 West. Kristy is moving toward the north near 7 mph (11 km/h). A turn toward the north-northeast is expected overnight, followed by a turn back to the north with a decrease in forward speed on Saturday. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 70 mph (110 km/h) with higher gusts. Some additional is strengthening is possible, and Kristy could become a hurricane overnight or early Friday before it reaches cooler water. Gradual weakening is expected to begin later on Friday and continue through the weekend. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles (150 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 992 mb (29.30 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- None.
