DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 800 PM PDT (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Miriam was located near latitude 14.0 North, longitude 132.5 West. Miriam is moving toward the west near 12 mph (19 km/h). The tropical storm is forecast to continue moving west at a similar forward speed for the next day or two, before slowing and turning toward the north-northwest later this week. On the forecast track, Miriam will reach the central Pacific basin late Wednesday or early Thursday. Maximum sustained winds remain near 65 mph (100 km/h) with higher gusts. Gradual strengthening is expected over the next few days, and Miriam is forecast to become a hurricane on Tuesday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 999 mb (29.50 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- None.
