DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 500 AM AST (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Ophelia was located near latitude 31.9 North, longitude 38.8 West. Ophelia is moving toward the southeast near 3 mph (6 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue during the next day or two. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Gradual strengthening is forecast, and Ophelia is expected to become a hurricane by Wednesday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles (165 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1002 mb (29.59 inches).
