DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 1100 PM AST (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Ophelia was located near latitude 30.7 North, longitude 37.6 West. Ophelia is moving toward the southeast near 6 mph (9 km/h). A southeastward to east-southeastward motion with some reduction in forward speed is forecast over the next couple of days. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Ophelia is forecast to become a hurricane by Thursday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1002 mb (29.59 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- None.
