Pakistan is now confronted with a financial crisis after the rupee has sharply dropped this year and the central bank has been forced significantly raising its benchmark interest rate. Chinese buyers could have however filled their quota with demand potentially dropping for Australian wool in the coming weeks. The level of market prices continues heavily depending on Chinese demand, as reflected by our monthly trade data covering the 12 months to last August. Cotton Prices on International and Domestic Markets (Weekly Report)

Cotton futures were this Monday rebounding in electronic trading in Asia after Washington and Beijing have announced a 3-month trade truce, with China potentially buying larger quantities of US agricultural products. The 25% additional tariff on China's imports of US cotton should limit any rebound in demand and prices, if not removed.
