US Apparel Imports in 1st Quarter 2020: Categories (Statistical Report)

US imports of cotton apparel have more resisted the sharp overall decline of the first quarter than man-made fiber apparel. A double-digit drop has been observed in many categories, with significant differences in results depending on products, however. Our series of statistical tables offer a comprehensive view of volume, value, and unit value changes, compared with previous first quarters in 2015-20. Quarterly data from 1st quarter 2011 are available for download in a comprehensive table.

Polyester Chain Prices: PX, PTA, MEG and Fiber Prices (Weekly Report)

Polyester chain prices have begun to climb across the board, reflecting a sharp increase in crude oil prices in the last weeks. The polyester producers could be confronted with a rise in their material costs, as a result, whereas demand remains heavily depressed, however. Our weekly report covers the polyester chain in Asia, including PX (paraxylene), PTA (purified terephthalic acid), MEG (mono ethylene glycol), polyester chips, and polyester staple and filament prices. Cotton prices have again been supported by massive US cotton buying by China to replenish its state reserves. However, textile production will experience a double-digit fall this year, meaning that cotton use will slide dramatically in Asia, as reflected by the latest USDA data.
