The job In order to support the growth of our activities at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt Germany, we are looking for a C and Java Software Engineer. The successful candidate will be deployed in a project team which will carry out software maintenance and evolution tasks of an already existing, complex operational data archiving and retrieval system. This may include SW analysis and design to add new functionalities to the legacy system SW development and coding for new functions as well as correction of legacy system anomalies SW testing at unit and subsystem level SW integration and validation at subsystem and system level Skills and experience general profile The ideal applicant is a Software Engineer with 310 years of experience developing complex SW systems acquired in a formal, configurationcontrolled development environment, preferably for operational, missioncritical applications. programming languages The system is mainly written in C, Java and JavaScript, the C applications being progressively ported to Java. The ideal candidate will have expert knowledge of at least one of and good working knowledge of at least one of the others operating systems The system presently runs under Solaris and will be ported to Linux. Sound experience with at least one and knowledge to the other will be required. middleware The C subsystems communicate with each other through CORBA. However, due to the port to Java, a replacement for CORBA will have to be selected. The candidate needs to be familiar with stateoftheart middleware DBMS The candidate will have at least a working knowledge of PostgreSQL Other knowledge of one of more of the following will be an asset JUnit, GWT Google Web Toolkit, Spock, Kotlin, Groovy The working language is English. The ability of working effectively in that language, including the participation in technical meetings andor boards and the production of highquality technical documents and reports, is therefore essential.
