Future Studies Technology Development Engineer Key Tasks and Responsibilities As part of the Earth Observation DEOP Directorate at the European Space Research and Technology Centre ESTEC, you will have the following responsibilities Support the identification of the technology requirements for future Earth observations missions, including in support of European industries competitiveness Providing support to technology developments for future Earth Observation missions, that are conducted in the technology coordination section Support ESAs technology harmonisation process Support missions under preparation through participation to reviews, assessment of industrial results Maintaining and improving the Earth Observation technology database Providing support to technology developments within the new and prospective ESA member states Poland, Romania, Hungary, Estonia and PECS countries Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience University Degree in Engineering or equivalent qualification Solid knowledge of techniques used in Earth Observation missions Solid background in satellite system and subsystem technologies Relevant experience according to the task description Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an advantage. Tasks and Activities The scope of work covers the initial phases of the satellite system design, including feasibility studies at the Phase 0 PrePhase A Phase A level but excluding, in principle, the implementation phase. Management, analysis, definition, and initiation of industrial activities associated to new projects in the telecommunication satellite system domain Assessment of the need and commercial potential for future satellite telecommunication missions and systems Assessment of new concepts and techniques to be applied to next generation satellite communication systems for both space and ground segment Managing prospective studies on new mission concepts and architectures Analysing and preparing proposals for new telecommunication satellite telecommunication projects, including the definition of mission requirements Definition of all the elements endtoend associated to the missionsystem architecture of new telecommunication satellite projectssystems Assessment and analysis of the best concepts and technical solutions to meet the defined mission and system requirements. Assessment of the potential and benefits at system level of new techniquestechnologies. Perform tradeoffs between different conceptstechnologies to optimize the endtoend system Support the negotiation, monitoring and control of contracts and activities related to system studies and Phases A of new telecommunication satellite projects Acquire and maintain endtoend system engineering expertise for the development of new telecommunication satellite system concepts and in new ESA ProjectsProgrammes. Skills and Experience University degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering Minimum 10 years of experience in satellite system engineering including industrial experience in the design and development of satellite communication systems Strong experience in space segment payload and preferably in broadband or mobile satellite communication systems Experience with telecommunication satellites platform, payload, or telecommunication endtoend system engineering Experience working with multiple divisions of the European Space Agency and interacting with subject matters experts You must be able to spend the first 3 months in Noordwijk for training purposes.
