Job description For our customer, the European Space Agency ESA, we are seeking an experienced spacecraft Onboard Software Engineer to work at ESAs ESTEC site in Noordwijk, The Netherlands. Responsibilities You will be assigned to the Flight Software Systems Section within the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality. The sections activities cover the development of Software Validation Facility SVF components as well developing generic reference facilities. This includes processor emulators, simulation of spacecraft systems and spacecraft dynamics. The work includes supporting ESA projects on the design, test and validation of onboards software maintenance and support on software development toolsets and design, implementation and test tasks for the Sections technology programme. These activities are of high importance with the ever growing functionality and autonomy of spacecraft and the amount of mission data to be collected and processed. As the sophistication and onboard intelligence of spacecraft has increased, e.g. to become more autonomous from ground, so too has the size and complexity of their associated software programs. Your initial tasks will be Project support related to all technical aspects development and qualification of flight software. General support to Software Validation Facilities and Avionics Test Bench infrastructure activities. You should be able to function as part of a team. Because of the operational nature of the support, a proactive and flexible attitude will be required. This is a full time position located at ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands. The requested start of work is January 2019. Qualifications Competencies The successful candidate will have A Masters level degree in Electronic Engineering, Space Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related discipline. A minimum of 4 years experience in software engineering and objectoriented programming including CC andor others. Familiarity with modern software engineering methods and have hands on experience of software development and verification tools. Experience with embedded realtime systems and realtime kernels e.g. RTEMS. Familiarity with microprocessors such as SPARC LEON, ARM, multicores etc. Familiarity with communication buses and protocols used in space systems Mil1553, SpaceWire, CAN An overall understanding and appreciation of space systems engineering. Knowledge of Software Engineering standards such as ECSSEST40C applicable to ESA projects.
