Spotify ends 2014 with 15 mln paid subscribers

(Telecompaper) Music streaming service Spotify has announced that it reached the milestone of 15 million subscribers and 60 million active users at the end of 2014. The company had previously revealed in November that it had a subscriber base of 12.5 million, up from 10 million in May. Spotify launched a US-only promotion at the start of December offering three months of its ad-free Premium service for USD 0.99 instead of the standard rate of USD 9.99 a month. It also began rolling out its Spotify Family service at the end of October, enabling users to invite up to four family members and share one billing account.

Box to raise up to USD 187 mln in IPO

(Telecompaper) Cloud storage provider Box is moving ahead with its IPO plans. The company said it plans to sell 12.5 million shares for USD 11-13 each. With an over-allotment option to sell another 1.875 million shares, Box could raise a maximum USD 186.9 million. The shares will be listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The company said it plans to use the proceeds of the offering for general corporate purposes, including working capital, operating expenses and capital expenditures. According to its most recent figures, Box generated a net loss of USD 129 million in the nine months to October, on revenues of USD 154 million.
Sprint adds nearly 1 mln new customers in Q4

(Telecompaper) Sprint added a net 967,000 new mobile customers in the fourth quarter on its Sprint brand network. This included postpaid net additions of 30,000, prepaid net additions of 410,000 and wholesale net additions of 527,000. Sprint said it recorded the highest number of postpaid gross additions in three years, and postpaid phone gross additions increased 20 percent year-over-year. The operator's new CEO Marcelo Claure said the priority is to return to customer growth, and the results show the company is on the right track. Recent offers to win customers from rivals helped Sprint exit the quarter nearly reaching postpaid phone net additions in December and increasing take rates on device financing options to 50 percent in the last month. Sprint will provide its full financial results for the quarter in February.

Lalamove nets $10 mln

Tele Columbus to raise EUR 300 mln in IPO in H1

(Telecompaper) Germany's third largest cable operator, Tele Columbus, expects to launch an initial public offering (IPO) in the first half of 2015, according to news agency dpa-AFX. The company said it plans to raise approximately EUR 300 million, chiefly to reduce its debt in order to enable investments in growth. There will also be a greenshoe option. Tele Columbus has approximately 1.7 million households connected to its network.
