Asustek sold over 1 mln ZenFone smartphones in Taiwan

(Telecompaper) Asustek Computer has sold more than 1 million ZenFone smartphones in Taiwan since its launch in April, The China Post reports. The company said that it aims to ship 2.6 million ZenFone smartphones in the third quarter, up 160 percent compared to the previous quarter, according to the report. Asustek aims to ship 8 mln ZenFone smartphones in 2014.

HTC posts net profit of TWD 640 mln in Q3

(Telecompaper) Smartphone manufacturer HTC posted unaudited net operating profit of TWD 160 million and net profit of TWD 640 million for the third quarter of 2014, Digitimes reports. HTC also reported consolidated revenues of TWD 16.718 billion for September rising 14.97 percent sequentially but slipping 7.90 percent year-on-year. Consolidated revenues for the January-September period reached TWD 140.045 billion, dropping 12.75 percent year on year.
Wananchi Group secures USD 130 mln for expansion

(Telecompaper) Wananchi Group, owners of the Zuku Fibre, Zuku pay TV and Simbanet business services brands, has announced the closure of a USD 130 million financing. It will be used to consolidate its market leadership in East Africa and to extend services across East and Southern Africa. The funding was co-led by existing Wananchi shareholders including Altice, Liberty Global, Emerging Capital Partners and ATMT, and new investors, Helios Investment Partners. Group vice chairman Richard Bell said it will continue the deployment of FTTH networks in more cities in East Africa and extend business services networks and product offerings across a wide variety of geographies and market segments.
iPhone 6 reservations hit 4 mln in China - report

(Telecompaper) Reservations for Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus hit 4 million in China on 3 October, according to a report from Tencent. The report also shows that Jingdong received 1,106,379 reservations for the iPhone 6 and 1,189,083 for the iPhone 6 Plus. Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be commercially available in China starting with 17 October. The phone will be available on China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom.

Kosmos to Buy into Senegal Offshore Blocks for $400 mln

Kosmos Energy is set to sign a $400 million "farm-in" agreement with Senegal's state-owned hydrocarbon firm Petrosen and Timis Corp to take a 60 percent stake in the Cayar and St. Louis offshore blocks that they operate, a draft Petrosen document seen by Reuters on Saturday showed. According to the document, Kosmos has committed to drill two exploration wells up to a total value of $240 million.
