German 5G auction attracts over EUR 300 mln in bids in first day

(Telecompaper) The German Federal Network Agency said that over EUR 332 million was offered by the four bidders in the 5G spectrum auction in the first day. Eight rounds of bidding were held and all but one block of spectrum received bids.
America Movil acquires 100% of Brazil's Nextel for USD 905 mln

(Telecompaper) America Movil has announced an agreement to acquire 100 percent of Brazil's fifth largest mobile operator Nextel from NII Holdings and Access Industries Brazil Holdings for a total of USD 905 million on a cash- and debt-free basis. Under the terms of the deal, NII Holdings will receive 70 percent of the final net proceeds, with AI Brazil receiving 30 percent for the stake it acquired in June for around USD 70 million.

Qualcomm awarded USD 31 mln in damages in Apple patent infringement suit

(Telecompaper) Qualcomm announced that a jury in the US District Court for the Southern District of California found that the Apple iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus and X infringe two Qualcomm patents, and the Apple iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X also infringe a third patent. The jury awarded Qualcomm USD 31 million in damages for infringement of the patents from July 2017, when the lawsuit was filed, through the end of the trial.
CDP spends EUR 960 mln to increase TIM stake to 8.7%

(Telecompaper) Italian state lender CDP has spent over EUR 960 million to increase its stake in Telecom Italia (TIM) to around 8.7 percent, according to a SEC filing. The state holding now has over 1.32 million TIM shares and is reportedly determined to reach a 10 percent stake ahead of a key shareholder vote on the composition of TIM's board on 29 March. The meeting will see shareholders vote on a request by leading shareholder Vivendi to remove five board members appointed by US activist fund Elliott on grounds of what the French company claims is a "substantial lack of independence".
MTS agrees to pay USD 850 mln to settle Uzbekistan bribery charges

(Telecompaper) Russian operator MTS has agreed to pay USD 850 million to settle a case brought by the US over alleged bribery in obtaining licences for MTS Uzbekistan. MTS set aside a provision for the payment already in Q3 2018 and also agreed with the US Department of Justice and SEC to improve its internal controls and compliance checks to prevent future corruption.
