The key person will be primarily assigned to Lisa Pathfinder, with the possibility of supporting other missions within the Astronomical Missions Division. Tasks The key person will have the following tasks, depending on the mission phase Study of Project Specific Characteristics and Ground Segment Documentation Preparation of Functional Requirements for the Project dedicated Flight Control Software Participation in the Analysis and Design of Satellite Operations Preparation of Functional Requirements for the Project dedicated Flight Control Ground Facilities Preparation of Flight Control and Contingency Procedures Mission Management and Mission Planning Support OnBoard Software Maintenance Support Production of Project Specific Software Validation and Satellite Interface Validation Test SVT Procedures and Participation in SVTs Participation in the System Operations Validation Test SOV, Training and Simulation Programmes Participation in Launch and Early Orbit Phase LEOP and Mission Critical Operations General Flight Control Support Spacecraft Performance Analysis The SC Operations Management is only required in exceptional cases. The service requirements are for a standard SOE support, but with a focus on Flight Procedure Validation, Mission Planning and Payload Operations. The initial focus of the key person is to provide independent Procedure validation of the FOP, which is issued in September 2014. The validation will be conducted on the LPF MCS Simulator. The validation will therefore include the endtoend ground systems, in case of problems the location of the issue should be identified and reported using the defined channels. After procedure validation, the main activity areas are Payload operations preparation, validation and execution, including mission planning and commissioning plan and timeline. Qualifications and Requirements The key person will need to fulfil the following requirements Essential Spacecraft knowledge on a subsystem level, particular of Payloads Expertise in operational environments Understand and accurately predict behaviour of complex systems. Control Theory Service provision will be exclusively in English Able to prioritise and manage several activities in parallel, and across multidomains Familiarity with operational training Familiarity with operational simulators, ideally SimSat Familiarity with satellite control systems, ideally SCOS2000 Familiarity with Operational Payloads. In addition, the candidate shall be assertive, communicative and able to work in a team in a multinational environment. A good knowledge of the English language is mandatory. Desirable Familiarity with Orbits and Attitude Knowledge of satellite or ground operations, or nonspace operational environments Experience with prelaunch activities and launch campaigns of satellites Mission Planning expertise Power Thermal expertise Understanding of Commissioning campaigns for Satellite Payloads. The tasks to be performed are those typical for a spacecraft operations engineer, but with a focus on flight procedure validation, mission planning and payload operations. The initial focus for this position is to provide independent validation of the Flight Operations Procedures FOP. The validation is conducted on the LISA Pathfinder mission control system and using the operational simulator. The validation will therefore include the end to end ground systems. Following procedure validation, the main activity areas will be payload operations preparation, validation and execution, including mission planning and spacecraft commissioning plan and timeline. More general spacecraft operations engineering activities are expected during the LEOP preparation and execution, when the payloads are not active. It is currently planned that LISA Pathfinder will launched in the 2nd half of 2015, with commissioning completed by end of 2015. The spacecraft is planned to be decommissioned one year after launch. This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date later in 2014. Your Qualifications This position requires a person with University degree or similar in engineering, physics or related subject. We require staff, wishing to join our team to work in a dynamic international environment for the following position GNC Engineer Lisa Pathfinder ENGSERVSER201426 Tasks and Responsibilities The work will be performed at the European Space Research and Technology Centre ESTEC Noordwijk, The Netherlands in the Lisa Pathfinder programme. You will have the following responsibilities Supervising the design and implementation of the DFACS and AOCS subsystems effectively finished. Supervising the verification of DFACS in particular performed by Industry AOCS verification is to a large extent finished. This includes the test planning, test procedure development, test execution and analysis of test results as well as taking part in nonconformance review boards. Monitoring the schedule of DFACS verification onground and inorbit commissioning. Supervising the DFACS user manual prepared by Industry for correctness. Supervising the inorbit commissioning of DFACS that will be performed by Industry. Liaison with STOC and MOC for the preparations of handover of the SC after inorbit commissioning for the DFACS. This involves following science operations simulations before launch and assessing nonconformant observations raised during such simulations for impact on DFACS. Verification of the DFACS and science performance achieved in his specific field of competence, supporting System Engineering manager on o the definition of the flight operations constraints and procedures, and the mission operations o the preparation and implementation of the launch and commissioning phase. The post holder will keep close contacts with the Control Systems Division TECEC which is the mother division in the Technical Directorate, sharing technical knowledge and participating at least once a month to the TECECN section meetings. Qualifications, Experience and Skills Applicants should have a Master degree in a relevant Engineering discipline and several years experience in control and aerospace engineering. Furthermore, candidates should have following experience and skills An extensive insight and good experience in control engineering and verification of complex control systems is required. Strong interpersonal and good communication skills are required for efficient interaction with highly skilled industrial and scientific expertise as well as capability to work effectively with the ESA project team.
