Engineer, Spacecraft Subsystem ADCSPropulsion United States Manassas, Virginia Your Job The ADCS Propulsion Section of the Satellite Engineering Department is responsible for the satellite attitude control and propulsion subsystems, including the onboard data handling and software related to those subsystems, across the growing SES fleet of GEO and MEO satellites. This position will be based out of the Manassas office, primarily focused on the MEO constellation. In this role, you will become part of a team that provides engineering and oncall support to the satellite operations control centers, performs satellite in orbit operations developments, ensures readiness for and execution of future satellite missions, such as O3b mPOWER, and provides engineering support to the SES satellite procurement field offices situated at the satellite manufacturers. Your Responsibilities Provide attitude dynamics, control and propulsion expertise to nominal and contingency operations of the satellite fleet. You will support daytoday inorbit operations including the development of nominal and contingency procedures as well as analysis tools related to satellite operations Provide oncall engineering support, react to contingencies and cope with real time situations for the attitude control and propulsion subsystems of the satellite fleet Monitor the ADCS and Propulsion subsystems to identify degraded performance, anticipate scenarios and take appropriate action. You will develop and maintain tools for evaluating and trending health to maximize satellite safety, availability and longevity Provide support to new satellite construction programs, including attending design reviews, unit acceptance reviews and satellite testing activities Prepare for the launch of new satellites, including participation to the orbit raising operations, in orbit testing, and development of the products required for the final in orbit operations Interface with the external satellite manufacturers in relation to the responsibilities of the section Contribute to a continuous effort to more effectively and efficiently manage the satellites in orbit, including process, monitoring, and data analysis improvements Continuously strive to be aware of relevant technological developments, their implementation, validation, and provide input to the technical evaluation of future satellite proposals Your Profile A Masters Degree in Engineering, with a specialization which includes dynamics and control systems. Proficiency with MATLAB andor Python programming language. A couple of years applicable professional experience in satellite engineering andor operations are desired, but not mandatory. Recent Graduate applications are welcome. A willingness to work and build presence within a team environment that includes remote management and team members situated at multiple SES sites. This requires a strong sense of initiative and a selfstarter attitude. Commitment to deadlines and willingness to meet the needs of a 24x7 oncall environment, which can require out of hours support. A valid driver license is essential for oncall support. Fluency in English, with excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Willingness to travel internationally. Engineer, Spacecraft Subsystem Payload Island of Man Douglas Based in the Isle of Man, the Payload Engineer will support the development of the companys next generation of satellites and followup contracts with the satellite manufacturers, focusing mainly on the oversight of the payloads active antennas and solidstate power amplifiers SSPA. The successful applicant will work closely together with the SES engineering team located in Betzdorf, Luxembourg and with the SES Spacecraft Field Offices located around the world. The position involves following and reporting on the development of multiple satellite telecommunication payloads active antennas, SSPAs and overall satellite repeater modules. This position will require the post holder to travel up to 50 of their time. Responsibilities Include Together with the SES engineering team, perform the design, analysis and ensuing preparation of SES future satellite telecommunication payloads, including SESNext, focusing on latest radiating antennas and SSPAs technology. Support SES Field Offices in performing the oversight of the SESNEXT payloads active antennas and SSPA development and, as appropriate, attend relevant meetings and reviews with both SES internal and external stake holders spacecraft payload manufacturers, antennas and SSPAs suppliers. Early detection and identification of critical problem areas throughout the design, construction and test phases of the satellites payload. Safe guarding SES interests in the case of technical or programmatic issues arising. Experience Solid background in digital communicationRF engineering, satellite payload architecture and antennas Ability to find and propose pragmatic solutions on payload issues compatible with the cost and schedule of the program, and in close collaboration with the manufacturers, the SES field office team and the specialists within SES. Excellent communications skills both written and oral. Negotiation skills, assertiveness and ability to seek working solutions within program constraints. Qualifications University degree in one of the following fields ElectricalTelecommunicationRF and Microwave Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Physics or equivalent. Masters or Ph.D. is an asset. Experience in the design and development of solidstate amplifiers and active antennas. Solid experience with RF hardware, antennas, andor with payload system engineering, related to telecommunication satellites would be considered an asset. Knowledge in Link Power budgets. SATURN Satellite Networks UK is looking to recruit key personnel for a new satellite manufacture in the UK which will disrupt the existing satellite communications market. Propulsion Subsystem Engineer Description Based at our new stateoftheart facilities in the UK, Saturn satellite manufacturing will be producing compact communications satellites 200Kg500Kg for Geostationary, MidEarth Orbit and LowEarth orbit systems for export around the world. Our unique payload of shaped antenna systems and programmable digital processor will allow full communications services to be provided inorbit at a costpoint which is a fraction of the cost of traditional communications satellites. To carry the communications payload we will be producing a new spacecraft platform in the UK, and utilising the latest techniques in automated engineering. We are therefore seeking the highest calibre individuals to join our platform design and manufacturing team. More than just technical competence we are looking for people with commitment and ambition. Position Summary The Propulsion subsystem engineer will be responsible for all aspects of the spacecraft thrust and manouvering capabilities.. The Propulsion subsystem engineer will be responsible for the definition and procurement of the thrusters and associated equipments. The propulsion engineer will be responsible for ensuring that the spacecraft has sufficient propellant with margin for the mission lifetime including any deorbit or reorbit. Responsibilities Define the Propulsion subsystem in terms of the tradeof between monopropellant, hybrid or electric hall thrusters taking into account the mission parameters. Define the propulsion subsystem in terms of thruster and tanking requirements, fuel load and mass. Liaise with the Program Manager for the procurement of commercial propulsion components and units Liaise with the Structuralmechanical engineer for the placement of thrusters, valves etc. internally and externally. Support the Lead Platform design Engineer on all aspects of the platform design pertaining to propulsion Liaise with the AOCS engineers for propulsion control interfaces and pointing determination Ensure that all platform program documentation for the Propulsion subsystem ICDs, diagrams, budgets etc. is produced. Produce the propellant budget and fuelling procedures. Qualifications and experience Minimum of 2 years professional experience in spacecraft propulsion systems definition and implementation. Strong knowledge of propulsion evolution including electric Hall thrusters, green monopropellant and hybrid systems. Ability and willingness to include latest generation processes and techniques for manufacturing Strong written and verbal communications skills Strong technical background and proven program history Ability to produce spacecraft budgets and specifications Eligible to work in the UK UK security clearance may be sought
