Start your mission with DLR. The German Aerospace Center DLR has a dual mandate as the national research center for aeronautics and space, and as the space agency of the German federal government. Approximately 8,000 people work for DLR on a uniquely diverse range of topics spanning the fields of aeronautics, space, energy, transportation and security research. They collaborate on projects extending from fundamental research to the development of the innovative applications and products of the future. If the idea of joining a topclass team of researchers working in a supportive, inspirational environment appeals to you, then why not launch your mission with us? For our Department of Guidance, Navigation and Control Systems at the Institute of Space Systems in Bremen we wish to recruit for the Design, Development, and Verification of Guidance and Control Systems for Space Applications Four Engineers in the Field of Aerospace Engineering, Control Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or similar Your Mission The Institute of Space Systems in Bremen designs and analyzes future spacecraft and space missions launchers, orbital and exploration systems, and satellites, and assesses them with regard to their technical performance and cost. It applies stateoftheart methods of multidisciplinary engineering in system design and analysis for example, a computerized system for concurrent design. The Guidance, Navigation and Control Systems Department focuses on the capability to analyze, design, develop, implement, simulate, test, and verify attitude and orbit control systems AOCS guidance, navigation, and control GNC systems for space applications and their components. This involves a range of disciplines, including requirements management, systems engineering, algorithm development, software implementation, systems analysissimulationverification, and hardwareintheloop testing. The GNC Systems Department is also conducting research and development of promising and strategic technologies for AOCS and GNC systems. The guidance and control group works within the field of research and development of guidance and control systems for space applications. We thoroughly analyze dynamic systems to synthesize robust and performant guidance and control solutions in order to achieve a highly reliable, controlled system. This encompasses system identification, controller design and trajectory optimization. Our activities range from mathematical problem formulation and modelling to simulation, flight code implementation and software verification and validation in realtime environments The GNC Systems Department is involved as an official partner in the Mission to the Moon of PTScientists, the first European Moon landing mission. The mission objective is to be the first private company to safely land a spacecraft on the Moon, to explore the area around the Apollo 17 landing site with two rovers, and to send pictures and videos down to Earth. In the frame of this project, the GNC Systems Department is leading the development of the GNC subsystem as scientific partner. The work comprises the development of optical navigation technologies, the controller synthesis for descent and soft landing, the optimization of the landing trajectory as well as the comprehensive verification of all associated elements. Within this context, we are looking for scientific staff members to conduct the following tasks within the Guidance Control Research Group Analysis and design of GC methods for planetary landing, including trajectory optimization Implementation and VV of powered descent guidance methods Analysis and design of attitude and orbit control systems for satellites Modelling and simulation of realistic environments, dynamics, and sensor signals Integration and adaption of GNC functions to realtime processing environments Processor and hardwareintheloop testing of onboard GNC functions Projectactivity results documentation, presentation, and publication General support to GC development for current and future projects Commitment to group activities such as maintenance and development of laboratories, development and improvement of procedures, knowledge management, or acquisition of external funding Your Qualifications Required Successfully completed university degree on masters level or equivalent according to 7 II Tarifvertrag ber die Entgeltordnung des Bundes TV EntgO Bund in the domain of aerospacespace engineering, control engineering, mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering, or similar Knowledge in classic and modern control theory Knowledge in optimization theory Good programming skills in C, C, MATLAB and Simulink Experience with realtime systems e.g. dSPACE Fluent in written and spoken English, ideally with work experience abroad Conformance with the personal requirements for handling of export controlled goods and information according to German, European and American export control laws Willingness to domestic and international travels on official business Desired Knowledge and Experience Practical experience with robust or nonlinear control design methods for complex dynamic systems Practical experience with optimal control, optimization and transcription methods Experience with Linux operating systems ideally Ubuntu and version control systems e.g. Git, Subversion Practical experience with writing scientific documents with LaTeX Scientific publications articles in peerreviewed journals, conference contributions, etc. Supervision of student seminar papers and theses Mastery of written and spoken German is an advantage Experience and successes with acquisition of external funding PhD in the area of GC design or optimization is an advantage Your Benefits Look forward to a fulfilling job with an employer who appreciates your commitment and supports your personal and professional development.
