Environmental Effects Testing Engineering Support

For one of our main customers ESAETEC, we are currently looking for engineering support for Materials Space Evaluation Radiation Effects Section. Tasks and Responsibilities Advanced materials testing with a main focus on space environmental materials testing activities. This includes vacuum, radiation, charged particles and neutral atmospheres and synergistic testing. Testing includes setting up test facilities, test procedures and execution of agreed test plans. Modifications of testing facilities as required by customer needs. Performing common materials analysis investigations like microscopic spectroscopic analysis and thermal analysis before and after space simulation. Support to resolution of NCRs internal and external. Performing surface and near surface sensitive characterisation of materials after space environmental simulation. This requires the operation of state of the art instruments like Raman, ESCA, NMR and ESR facilities. Improving test procedures and ensuring that these are executed correctly. Design and perform nonstandard tests to meet special space project requirements as well as develop in situ analysis techniques. Traceability of test exposure conditions and follows the effect of the exposure on samples. Recording sample properties or condition during and after test, accurately and legibly. Checking on test equipment performance and reporting any anomalies or faults. Producing clear and professional reports in English as specified for the task. Supporting the inclusion of results in internal databases. Carrying out testing analysis in an ISO 17025 compliant manner including procedure and documentation development. Maintenance of the relevant test equipment. The Contractor shall ensure that the equipment under his responsibility is kept in an operational state and shall ensure that all necessary routine calibration and maintenance activities are carried out. Experience and education A university degree in materials science with a good working knowledge of materials process technology, a good understanding of physics and minimal two years of practical experience in a controlled test environment Should be familiar with testing, monitoring data acquisition e.g. LABVIEW and controlling instruments Should be able to work independently and have confidence to deal directly with customers, in person or by telephone All activities included with particular emphasis on the improvement of existing test setups and support to the definition of investment items Contributions to the preparation and maintenance of pertinent laboratory documentation and publications. JOB DESCRIPTION Responsibilities Duties Tasks The consultant will be integrated into the MTG MOF Team. The tasks of the Consultant will typically include, during the remaining procurement phase Supporting the MTG ground segment team in following the MTG Mission Planning System MPS and procedure edition and execution tools procurement, to make sure that the delivery fits the intended purpose Participating in reviews for the MPS, the procedure edition and execution tools, and interfacing facilities. Analysing and reviewing relevant MTG documentation, preparing technical notes and attending technical meetings Participating in MPS, procedure edition and execution tools testing e.g. Factory and OnSite Acceptance Testing and related activities at facility and system level. Analysing and reporting on the test results, in particular with respect to their suitability for requirement verification and validation Creation and execution of test procedures on the assigned MOF elements in order to validate their readiness for operational usage Participating in the installation of the MPS, procedure edition and execution tools at EUMETSAT, while fulfilling the configuration management requirements. Verifying the facility installation Defining the Mission Planning, procedure edition and execution tools operational implementation database structures, etc Monitoring and steering the lifecycle for MPS, procedure edition and execution tools related anomaly reports ARs and nonconformance reports NCRs Interacting with internal users, suppliers and partner organisations Maintaining internally generated tools and creation of new internal tools, mainly developed in Java, C and C. During the operations preparation and routine operations phase, the tasks include Performing routine and contingency scheduling tasks using the MPS and procedure edition and execution tools Performing preventative maintenance on the MPS and associated tools according to working practice, generally by running system checks to spot any system anomalies or errors Raising anomaly reports when necessary and monitoring their resolution through attendance at appropriate review boards. Supplying context and initial analyses that may aid the investigation of anomalies Responding to mission planning related anomalies and operational contingencies promptly Maintenance of mission planning documentation such as the User Guide document and the Operational Implementation document Liaising with external entities where necessary in order to fulfil joint operations requirements. Maintaining documentation concerning this Maintaining a detailed understanding of the operational needs that are met through mission planning. Through regular liaison with space and ground segment experts, implementing, testing and documenting new or modified operational needs that are met through mission planning Performing the maintenance, update, validation and documentation of the MPS operational implementation in all mission phases Rolling out of new versions of the MPS operational implementation following approved configuration management procedures Contributing to the definition of any changes to the supplied mission planning application software or to inhouse supporting software that could lead to performance andor ergonomics improvements. Contributing to the process of implementing such changes, and liaising with any external contractors that may be performing the changes Contributing to the definition and raising of Engineering Change Proposals and Change Requests concerning mission planning, and attending ECP Review Board meetings if necessary Contributing to the operational validation of new versions of mission planning application software, including testing of ARNCR correction and new functionality. This may include FAT or OSAT attendance Participation in any necessary meetings and reviews long term scheduling, schedule consolidation, anomaly review boards, etc Training of personnel in mission planning tasks as required. Qualifications University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline Required knowledge The consultant shall have, as a prerequisite, a demonstrated experience in the field of SpaceMission Planning of at least 5 years, preferably gained during the specification, developmentand operation of space systems. Additionally, RSP provides support to EUMETSATs future programmes. The geophysical products most relevant to this post are those involving different cloud processes e.g. atmospheric instability, cloud formation, and precipitation derived both from geostationary and polar orbiting satellite data. The Consultant will also participate, if necessary, in the operations preparation, launch and commissioning phases of new satellites. The key person shall analyse, support the design, operational implementation and validation of the agreed changes to product algorithms. Similarly, Shehe shall support the design, implementation and validation of new product algorithms. The work is carried out in small project teams consisting of relevant experts. Shehe will also be involved in the analysis and resolution of anomalies relating to the product generation software.
