NIST performs measurements for James Webb Space Telescope.

NIST has accurately measured parts designed for the upcoming James Webb Space Telescope, the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope. NIST mechanical engineer John Stoup and his colleagues performed measurements of 4 alignment mounts that support and help to position a major Webb telescope structure known as the Primary Mirror Backplane Support Structure. Structure will hold telescope’s 21 ft diameter mirror as well as approximately 5,300 lb of telescope’s instruments and optical components.

You will have the following responsibilities Operations engineering for the European Robotic Arm and Meteron Multipurpose End To End Robotics Operations Network projects, and for future projects such as technology demonstrations on ISS Liaise with EAC, GCTC and RSC Energia for instructor and crew training issues, including maintenance of the ERA Astronaut Training Database ATD Software management andor rapid software prototyping for the projects in the office Logistics organisation for ERA integration and launch campaign, Meteron experiments and test campaigns in analogue sites field tests Support the development of specific qualification andor ISS flight demonstrations of technology items needed for human exploration Performance of system definition studies for future human exploration developments Support the Office and Division in other tasks as required. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience University degree in Engineering Experience in space operations Knowledge of the International Space Station Programme Robotics engineering knowledge System and software engineering experience Capability to work in a team with other ESA organizations as well as with external partners Candidates should be rigorous, have good communication skills and be able to transfer technical knowhow in a clear and concise manner Willing and eligible to travel outside Europe e.g. Russia Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an advantage. NASA has awarded a sole source contract modification to Raytheon Space & Airborne Systems, of El Segundo, CA, for two Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite instruments for the Polar Follow-On / Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) -3 and JPSS -4 Missions. This is a cost-plus-award-fee new work modification. Contractor will manufacture, test, and deliver the VIIRS instruments, support instrument integration on the spacecraft, and provide launch and post-launch support.
