The key person will work in the TSS Department supporting the Mission Control Applications and Tools Team, which is part of the GSI Division. The Mission Control Applications MCA and Tools Team is responsible for the maintenance and development of the following Mission Control Applications Spacecraft Monitoring Control, Local Applications Monitoring Control, Onboard software management, Flight Dynamics System, Mission Planning System, OpsPrep Tools, Data analysis and reporting tools, Spacecraft Simulator. The Mission Control Applications and Tools Team performs the following activities Software engineering and software maintenance of multimission and missionspecific Mission Control Applications and Tools for GEO and LEO missions. Software engineering for the reuse of Mission Control Applications and Tools with the separation between generic kernel and missionspecific extensions. Integration and verification at application and system level. User and software support to flight control teams. Support to the EUMETSAT Programme Preparation and Development PRD Department for the PhaseBCD of new missions in the domain of Mission Control Applications. The key person will provide hisher prime support to the Mission Control Applications and Tools Team and heshe will support the evolution and maintenance of the EUMETSAT Mission Planning Systems for LEO missions. the requirements specification, design, implementation, integration and verification of Mission Planning Systems for new EUMETSAT LEO Programmes PhaseBCD, including the setting up of the related maintenance arrangements and processes. the technical coordination in the team of the different parallel activities involving the EUMETSAT Mission Planning Systems for LEO missions. Analysis and implementation of mechanisms or tools allowing the automatic or semiautomatic verification testing of the application software. Coordination of the production of new software releases or patches, delivery acceptance and installation onsite. This activity includes the technical coordination of the production by an external contractor of new releases or patches of the application software, liaison with the EUMETSAT operational users, participation in technical reviews, participation in factory at contractor premises acceptance testing campaigns and coordination of the installation of the releases or patches onsite at EUMETSAT. Execution and coordination of software verification and nonregression testing campaigns. This activity includes preparation of test data, running the test procedures on the target system, generation of test reports, analysis of results and troubleshooting of problems. Software support software support to the endusers of the application software. Ensure operations continuity by provision of oncall services and software support to operations. Documentation generation and updates of technical documents. Technical point of contact for maintenance contractors acting as point of contact with the contractor for technical discussions, review of technical documentation from the contractor, organizing periodical technical meetings with the contractor. Support to new Missions PhaseB activities Requirements engineering Participation in the functional analysis and decomposition of the Ground Segment requirements in the domain of Mission Planning System. Support the definition of Ground Segment requirements in the area of the Mission Planning System. Participation in workshops and review meetings. Interfacing with Operations to consolidate the operational concept in the Mission Planning System requirements. Support the identification of the verification method and initial test cases for the Mission Planning System requirements. Incorporate the reuse of the EUMETSAT Mission Planning System kernel products in the Ground Segment requirements. PROFILE In addition to having a University degree in a relevant engineering discipline, the key person shall demonstrate significant knowledge and experience in the area of specification, design, implementation, verification and maintenance of Mission Planning Systems. The key person shall have skills and experience in the following mandatory areas 1. Domain Skills Experience minimum 5 years in the definition of software requirements, architectural design, implementation and maintenance of Mission Planning Systems in the context of Low Earth Orbit LEO space missions. 2. Software Development, Verification Maintenance Skills Experience minimum 5 years in the full cycle of development and maintenance of application software, preferably for Mission Planning Systems, following formal software engineering processes. This includes user and system requirement analysis, software requirement engineering, software design, implementation, corrective and evolutive maintenance activities. Experience minimum 3 years in IVV integration, verification and validation activities, preferably for Mission Planning Systems, following formal engineering processes. This includes requirement verification, system and subsystem integration, generation of test plan and test procedures, nonregression testing, generation of test data, generation of test tools, running the test procedures on the target system, generation of test reports and anomaly tracking. 3. Software Engineering Skills Experience minimum 3 years in designing and developing software applications using C and Java programming languages for UNIXLinux operating systems. Experience minimum 3 years in designing and developing software applications using interfaces to relational database management systems RDBMS and experience with data model design for RDBMS. Experience minimum 3 years in designing and developing software applications using JBoss Drools as business rule management system. It would be a distinct advantage for the key person to have knowledge andor experience with some of the following 4. Domain Skills Experience in integration of Mission Planning Systems with Mission Control Systems based on MICONYS software suite from ESAESOC. Experience in developing software applications interfacing with Oracle RDBMS. Experience with Oracle RDBMS administration. Experience with ILOG Views visualization library. For our activities in ESAC, we are currently looking for a Mission Analysis and Payload Planning System Engineer. Main responsibilities You will interact freely with any member of the following institutions involved in science operations work All missions science operations centres and science ground segments teams External elements of the science ground segments if required, under the supervision of the ESA internal part of the science ground segments ESAC Computer Support Group MAPPS TEC team at ESTEC Mission Planning Working groups internal or external as requested. Furthermore you will have the following tasks and responsibilities System engineering and architectural design activities, including operating plans and procedures Designing, developing, implementing, testing, deploying, operating and maintaining software tools and systems, e.g. Observation proposal handling, mission planning and quicklook systems, parts of which may be distributed to the community User support tools Interactive analysis and calibration systems, to be distributed as needed to the community for data reduction and analysis Data processing pipelines Contribute to the definition of Interface Control Documents ICDs and file interchange formats with external coordination units Contribute to the maintenance of the overall system, including configuration control and versioning Organise and perform end to end system testing with the scientific communities Scientific data archives and interfacing these to the virtual observatory Scientific and technical WWW systems to support Science Operations Centre, Science Ground Segment and the scientific community. Implementation of new MAPPS features, in the area of the Graphical User Interface, and in backend processing software Building compelling, interactive visualizations timelines, maps, geometrical data, statistics, etc.. and user interfaces Participate in all phases of development specification, design, development, bug fixing, testing, and documentation according to the ESA software engineering processes. Ideal candidate Requirements You should bring a Master Degree in a relevant discipline, at least 4 years of working experience and the following Extensive experience with objectoriented programming and relative design patterns Recent experience in C development 2 years Extensive experience in designing and producing meaningful, effective interactive customized data visualization and Graphical User Interfaces GUI Experience in language tools for memory debugging, memory leak detection and profiling General knowledge on commonly used bug reporting systems e.g. JIRA and software versioning systems e.g. GIT Experience with the Windows and Linux operating systems Knowledge is required in system and software engineering practices Knowledge in the corresponding software development language, database systems Knowledge is required in ECSS standards for software development. The following would be considered as an advantage Experience in other programming languages, such as Java, C, Python Experience in developing web applications Experience with the Qt toolkit or any comparable C based GUI toolkits Knowledge of spacecraft systems engineering Experience in modelling and simulation of spacecraft systems.
