(Telecompaper) BT has launched three Sim-only plans offering 4G, access to over 5 million BT Wi-Fi hotspots, free BT Sport via the BT Sport app and family-friendly features like spending caps on all tariffs. BT Broadband customers benefit from up to 50 percent discounts compared to customers not on broadband, with the entry-level pricing point at GBP 5 a month. Subscribers must sign a 1-year contract and those who want to buy a new phone can do so from BT Shop with prices starting at GBP 99. Again there are discounts for broadband customers on up to five mobile lines per home. The service described by BT as the UK's "best value 4G mobile data deal" offers 500 MB of 4G data, unlimited texts and 200 minutes for GBP 5 a month for broadband customers, GBP 10 if not. For GBP 12 a month broadband customers can have 2 GB, unlimited texts and 500 minutes for GBP 12 or GBP 17 a month, and 20 GB of 4G data and unlimited texts and minutes for GBP 20 or GBP 25, respectively. The last time BT was present in consumer mobile was before the demerger of O2 in 2002. It is now acquiring MNO EE to cement its return to mobile.

Hutchison to buy UK mobile network O2 for $US15.3 billion

Hutchison's finance director, has said the deal's approval will probably rest with European authorities in Brussels, rather than UK officials. Billionaire Li Ka-shing's Hutchison Whampoa Ltd agreed to buy Telefonica SA's O2 unit in the UK for more than $US15 billion creating the nation's biggest wireless provider by customers, increasing a bet on telecommunications amid an overhaul of his business empire.

Liberty to launch mobile internet service in PH in 2016

Liberty Telecoms Holdings Inc. , a joint venture of San Miguel Corp. and Qatar Telecommunications has announced that it will launch its own mobile internet service in the country in early 2016. "We are in the process of introducing a mobile broadband service and we hope to provide each and everyone a very good service starting January next year," said SMC President and Chief Operating Officer Ramon S. Ang, in a report by Inquirer.net.
