Jan 4 Volkswagen AG and General Motors Co are expected to disclose new details of their electric vehicle strategies at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week, highlighting efforts to stoke consumer enthusiasm for battery-powered cars to match growing regulatory demands to build them. Herbert Diess, head of the Volkswagen brand, is expected to reveal at CES on Tuesday a prototype electric vehicle offering "affordable long-distance electric mobility," the company said.

U.S. auto safety officials will meet with major automakers on Wednesday, seeking a voluntary agreement from the industry to improve recall completion rates, prevent vehicle cyber attacks and spot defects earlier, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is pushing the world's largest automakers to agree to voluntary reforms and announce them at a planned event Jan. 15 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, government officials say.

India's top environmental court on Friday banned the registration of diesel vehicles in Delhi until Jan. 6 as the city experiences hazardous levels of pollution, in part due to diesel emissions.
