It has now been over 30 years that comprehensive CS solutions for space systems and applications, both on the ground and in space, have been part and parcel of this odyssey. Mission The Key Person will be part of the HIL2 team. This team is responsible for the scientific development, maintenance, validation and routine monitoring of hyperspectral infrared atmospheric sounding products in support of the development and operations of EUMETSATs geostationary and polar orbiting systems. The Key Person shall contribute to the continued improvement of current operational products considering opportunities and new requirements from the user community. Heshe shall support the implementation and evaluation of new algorithms in EUMETSAT operational ground segments. It is expected that the tasks of the Key Person will typically include Release and validation of new versions of the operational IASI L2 Product Processing Facility Integration and verification of external software deliveries in the operational ground segment and in the prototype processors of the future missions Software anomaly fixing Development and documentation of prototype software and test procedures Generation of test data Statistical analysis and visualisation of hyperspectral infrared Level 2 products Support the transfer of the IASI expertise to future hyperspectral infrared missions MTGIRS and IASING Retrieval algorithm specification, validation and tuning. Profile The Key Person shall have a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as computer science, mathematics, physics, astrophysics, meteorology or remote sensing. The Key Person shall have at least three years of experience in the field of mathematical modelling and scientific computing. Specifically, the Key Person shall have experience and skills in Numerical algorithms Development and testing of complex scientific software Handling and processing of big amounts of data Object oriented techniques for scientific computing Software tools for revision control Very good skills in a high level programming language, preferably C Advanced use of data analysis and visualisation with tools like Matlab, IDL or equivalent preferably with satellite data. Experience in some of the following areas is expected Inverse problems Principal component analysis Further mathematical modelling techniques nonlinear optimization, regression, neural networks, Kalman filters, etc. Familiarity with satellite data, preferably from IASI or other hyperspectral infrared instruments Use of radiative transfer models Retrieval of atmospheric parameters from infrared andor microwave radiances Data formats and libraries such as HDF5 and NetCDF Software testing Validation and visualization of satellite products Software libraries for numerical linear algebra and similar subroutines Experience with further programming languages and tools such as Python, Ruby, Java, etc. Multithreads programming. Fluency in English written and oral is mandatory. Mission The key person shall support the activities of ground segment developments in the area of Software and Monitoring and Control MC related to the ground stations. In doing this, the key person shall support The Engineering activities of Phase B of future ground segments in the areas of ground stations software and MC systems. The follow up of the detailed design and development activities of Phase CD of the future ground segments in the areas of ground stations software and MC systems. The analysis and the implementationtesting of changes, or reengineering that may be required on the basis of user requirements or maintainability issues The testing and validation of new software and databases releases The automated operational Ground stations procedures and related databases The remote operation and the maintenance of EUMETSAT Ground Stations in the areas of Monitoring Control and SW architecture Transfer protocol for the spacecraft telemetry, telecommand and mission data The STC Lab activities by contributing to the system definition and specification of STC Lab applications in support of the different programmes and by contributing to the working practices definition and improvement. Profile The Key person shall have a university degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline relevant to the job profile together with the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision. Heshe shall have, as a prerequisite, a demonstrated experience in a similar function for at least 5 years. This experience shall include in particular System software engineering in an operational earth observation environment Monitoring Control software application Maintenance and Configuration Ground Stations Monitoring and Control LinuxWindows operating system TCPIP, SNMP, Serial based communications C and Java programming languages and XML Longterm maintainability analysis and integrating software into a new operating system andor across computer platforms Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage for the Key person to have experience with some of the following Ground stations system and subsystem design and development for TTC, mission specific andor satellite communications ground stations C and Java programming languages and XML Knowledge of multiplexingdemultiplexing schemes applied in Space Links for TTC and payload data transmission e.g. ECSS and CCSDS Standards. Data Base Applications and related configurations control mechanisms Fluency in English written and oral is mandatory.
