Telecommunications Satellite Payload Engineer

Position Reference 877 We are currently looking for a Telecommunications Satellite Payload Engineer to work to work at our clients premises in the city Harwell, United Kingdom. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Support the initiation of activities related to technology and product development for payload applications. Support the establishment and control of relevant ESA requirements, specifications and general documentation. Evaluation, support to negotiation, monitoring and control of development contracts and activities. Preparation of inputs to status reports. Contribute to the preparation of technology and product development work plans. Support other members of the section on their projects and share expertise within the section. Monitor market and technology trends and developments in the area of satellite communication. Cooperate with specialists in other ESA departments. Identify any issues during the procurement phase, the running or closing of an activity, and flag them for attention in a timely manner. Support the timely preparation of papers for Adjudication Committee meetings or Delegate bodies IPC, JCB, with high quality standards. Provide inputs for the Department Business Intelligence management system. Support TIA communication activities in line with the ESA TIA Communication Policy rules. Follow the relevant and applicable ISO procedures. Maintain the required level of confidentiality and security as defined in the ESA Security Directives. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory Masters degree or PhD or equivalent qualification in engineering and experience in payload technology and products for telecommunication satellites. General experience with the design, analysis, qualification, testing and implementation of satellite payload equipment for telecommunication satellites. Substantial experience in one or more of the following Management of development contracts for satellite payload equipment. Design, development andor exploitation of antenna, digital or RF units, such as low noise amplifiers channel amplifiers and linearisers power amplifiers frequency converters digital signal processors. Fluency in English, both written and spoken. The following skills would be highly desirable Sound knowledge of multiple different types of payload equipment and their functions at payload level. Its main objective is the monitoring of the distribution stratospheric ozone at high vertical resolution in support of longterm monitoring and operational services. ALTIUS Measurements of concentration profiles of other atmospheric species as well as of aerosol extinction vertical profiles are also envisaged in the frame of monitoring and scientific activities. Tasks Responsibilities You will contribute to all aspects project internal activities, monitoringreview of the relevant industrial activities, interaction with Mission Users and Scientists relevant to the mission performance of the ALTIUS mission up to Level 2. You will be supported by and are expected to closely cooperate with specialist engineers from the ALTIUS team, from the Earth Observation Projects Department and from the Directorate of Technical and Quality Management DTEC as appropriate. Requirements You should have a university degree at least Masters degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant physical science or engineering subject. You will be able to demonstrate experience in performance assessment of optical instrumentation for atmospheric observation including image processing. You will also have experience working with Earth limb observation systems as well as knowledge of aerosols and ozone observational data are assets. You shall demonstrate proficiency with programming languages relevant to the implementation and maintenance of the system performance models e.g. MATLAB and python. You shall possess solid analytical skills together with broad, systemoriented thinking, and the ability and motivation to rapidly learn and switch within a wide range of application domains. You shall have the capability to critically analyse the work performed by industry in the relevant areas, identify problems and propose corrective actions. You shall demonstrate good communication skills, ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team within the boundaries of assigned tasks and a stringent schedule, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the outside world Industry, MAG and User Community.
