Key Tasks and Responsibilities You will have the following responsibilities Definition and Justification of Service Requirements for the Galileo Open Service, with focus on Open Service Navigation Message Authentication and the new features of the Galileo Search and Rescue Service Contribution to the Service Definition Document and Preparation of a Justification File Simulation of service performance for justification of Minimum Performance Levels by means of Service Volume Simulations Definition of key performance indicators KPI to characterize the performance and implementation of software tools for KPI monitoring Monitoring and reporting of Key Performance Indicators on a monthly basis Support to the definition of the satellite selection algorithm definition and evaluation of the impact of satellite relocation Development and implementation of software tools for test and validation of the Service and participation to service validation campaigns Postprocessing of GNSS receiver data for message analysis Support to the preparation of the service validation plan, development and specification of Test Cases and Test Procedures, preparation of test reports, assessment and presentation of test results Followup of the validation activities of other stakeholders collection of verification credits from system qualification activities, operational validation and external participants to the validation campaign Participation to project reviews Support to management of NCRs and RFDsRFWs Support the Galileo Service Requirements Engineering and Validation team for any topic related to Galileo services, Galileo mission and system evolution including the Galileo Second Generation and contributing to any other tasks of the Galileo System Support team, as necessary Liaison with the customer EUSPA, ESA in relation to the tasks above. Instrument PreDevelopment, IPD design and manufacturing of early breadboard or downscaled version, representative of technologies, assembly and verification of full instrument. This position also includes the coordination of EO technology preparation activities performed within the whole of ESA throughout the definition and execution of specific technology research and development, supporting the identification of the technology requirements for future Earth observations missions and more specifically to missions under preparation through, e.g. participation to reviews, assessment of industrial results, evaluation of proposals in reply to calls Specific tasks include Development of future mission including implementation on performance simulators and verification and validation of the feasibility of the mission up to level2. Supporting the division in the area of EndtoEnd Simulation and System Engineering Tools for the preparation of future Earth Observation missions. Definition and development of the EndtoEnd Mission Performance Simulators. Install and use those E2E simulators on the EOPSF IT infrastructure for performance evaluation and system tradeoffs. Ensure the consistent evolution and maintenance of the E2E simulators and proper configuration and storage of the relevant inputoutput data sets. Supporting the development of generic building blocks and modules, and aim at maximum synergy and reuse of those building blocks and modules from one E2E simulator to the next making use of ESA OpenSF infrastructure. Participating to the development of System Engineering Tools for preliminary analysis and sizing of future EO missions Initiating and supporting work in the area of modeling of system or subsystem aspects. Preparing requirements, reviewing, evaluating and checking different architectures, designs and proposals, but also identifying deficiencies and problem areas and giving some assistance in their resolution. Getting a broad view on commercially available recurrent Earth Observation platforms, checking performance and addressing interfaces with possible payloads. Initiating requirement analysis and tradeoff, performance and budget analysis with their apportionment and requirement traceability. Exposing designs to Earth Observation scientific community having frequent iteration with scientific group through bimonthly Mission Advisory Groupmeeting, simulation support activities on Level 2 processor, ESA scientific studies reviews, etc... Profile You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience Education in Engineering or equivalent with at least 4 years of relevant experience in the space industry, Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an advantage. In addition to the required 4 years relevant work experience, the applicant should have some years of work experience in the field of satellite TTC and PDT systems. Knowledge of modern computer systems, programming languages, telecommunication standards particularly in the area of TTC and Telemetry, digital signal processing theory applied to communication systems and simulation tools is required. Familiarity with TTC transponders, Payload Data Transmitters for Earth Observation and other spacecraft subsystems technology design and testing is an asset, as is knowledge on TTC spaceflight hardware development. Knowledge on satellite telecommunication systems based on optical technology is an asset. Knowledge on Authentication and Encryption schemes as applied to TTCPDT systems, in addition to cyber security aspects, is also an asset.
