Job Description We are looking for a Technology Frequency Management Engineer on behalf of the European Space Agency ESA for their location in Noordwijk, The Netherlands, to join their Technology Frequency Management Section within the Future Missions and Instruments Division EOP8M. The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to Tasks and Responsibilities Identify technology requirements for future Earth Observation EO missions. A solid collaboration with the other sections of the division and with other divisions in the EOP directorate and ESAs technical directorate is essential for this work. Requirements Masters Degree in telecommunications and signal processing, electronic engineering, computer science or other scientific disciplines, as well as experience in these fields. Experience in the management and monitoring of industrial activities, including participation in reviews. Specific knowledge in the design and testing of Ground Segment algorithms related to the generation and monitoring of the navigation products i.e. Ephemeris, Clock, Group Delay, Code Phase Biases.... Specific knowledge on algorithms for clock ensembles, realtime clock anomaly detection and automatic fault compensation is considered an asset. Knowledge on Resource Abstraction layers e.g. hyper convergence, virtualisation, containerisation and data centric processing. As a member of the Directorate of Engineering the successful candidate will work in the ESO matrix structure serving various projects and fulfilling tasks received from Project Managers. She or he will be assigned to the Telescope and Large Structures Group in the Mechanical Engineering Department and support projects, for example ALMA and ELT construction in the field of Mechanical Engineering. This includes involvement in many project phases typically consisting of design studies, contract followup, manufacturing, AIV and commissioning. The Mechanical Engineer will be involved in collaborations with mainly European companies andor consortia for the design and construction of large steel structures and optomechanical subunits of the ELT as well as support to the ALMA Antennas and transporters. We are looking for an engineerphysicist to join the Electronic Detector Systems Group EDES to cover a wide range of roles, working in all aspects of designing and delivering new detector systems and their electronics to our observatories and partner organisations. The department comprises a group of 32 electronic engineers, physicists and technicians who are responsible for the definition, design and implementation of complex control systems for advanced optical and infrared astronomical instrumentation, detectors and telescope systems required for ESOs Observatories in Chile. As an ElectronicsDetector Systems Engineer, with an electronics engineeringphysics background you will be involved in the detailed design of the electronics required to operate the latest generation of astronomical detectors. Depending on your experience of electronics, this might include low noise analogue electronics circuit design to be used cryogenically, andor in the detailed design and development of the next generation of detector control systems which might include the VHDL developments, using the very latest FPGA technology with 10 Gbit link technology, or even the development of ASICs etc. You may also be involved in defining the appropriate sensor technology and detector controller systems to fulfil the astronomical scientific requirements of infrared and visible instruments and to design, modify, integrate and qualify these detector systems using proven calibration and test techniques.
