Radio Navigation Engineer

Summary An exciting opportunity for an experienced Radio Navigation Engineer to join the Telespazio VEGA UK team, working on site at ESTEC, supporting many navigation projects. Objective To provide support to the Navigation Project teams, including evaluation, design and analysis of ground and user segments technology for radio navigation and earth observation systems. Responsibilities Duties The successful candidate will be mainly working on GALILEO Ground Segment processing facilities, in a role supporting the GALILEO Ground Mission Segment GMS team. In particular, the detailed specific tasks include Supporting the monitoring of industrial contracts for the development of professional and commercial grounduser products for radio navigation and earth observation through ESAs cofunded RD programs e.g. GSTP Element 2, NAVISP and Incubed Supporting Navigation Projects e.g. EGNOS and GALILEO, RD and Testing activities in the fields of system and mainly receivers performances for sensor stations and user receivers Supporting earth observation projects mainly for the ground technology Supporting TEC Navigation Laboratory for the design, implementation and operation of complex testing setups. Candidates must be EU citizens, eligible for security clearance from their national security administration. Qualifications Experience University Masters degree or equivalent in the fields of Telecommunications and Signal Processing, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science. Experience in telecommunications and signal processing or electronic engineering, including direct experience on GNSS and Earth Observation Essential Skills Proven knowledge of project management techniques, system engineering processes, system development lifecycle e.g. V model, project execution and follow up Specific knowledge on products and services using space borne earth observation in the ground and user segments Specific knowledge on Satellite Radio Navigation Systems, ranging and positioning techniques and technologies, including architectures of multiGNSS receivers, high accuracy positioning RTK, PPP and robust positioning, navigation and timing Experience in the implementation, maintenance and operation of complex Radio Navigation processing, simulation and test facilities for spacecraft, aircraft, maritime and land mobile applications Desirable Skills Proven knowledge and handson experience on processing and testing techniques for multielement antennas beamforming, antenna calibration Experience in the field of autonomous vehicles, in particular related to positioning and testing techniques and safety standards Knowledge on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and their applications to radio navigation andor earth observation. TTC Engineer

Objective The successful candidate will be supporting TTC engineering activities in Agency projects from early conceptual phase to launch preparation for missions including near Earth, deep space and commercial satellites. Responsibilities Duties Typical duties for the successful candidate will include Participation in Concurrent Design Facility work including mission analysis. Supporting studies and analyses of techniques and technologies for Tracking, Telemetry and Command TTC and Payload Data Transmission PDT systems, including in particular modulation, error correction coding, combined adaptive modulationcoding, signal synchronisation, digital signal processing, RFmicrowave technologies. Technical support for the development of TTC and PDT equipment and subsystems. Assessing endtoend TTC and PDT systems including system level design, dynamic link budget assessment, and data flow analysis including interaction between different link layers and between transpondertransmitter and avionics equipment assessment of related encryption and authentication functions. Simulation and testing in laboratory of TTC PDT systems and equipment. Generation of technical requirements and statements of work for TTC PDT related activities. Technical support for standardisation activity in the frame of European ECSS and CCSDS. Qualifications Experience University Masters degree or equivalent in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering or related ScientificEngineering discipline. Essential Skills Experience in the field of satellite TTC and PDT systems. Knowledge of modern computer systems, programming languages, telecommunication standards particularly in the area of TTC and Telemetry, digital signal processing theory applied to communication systems and simulation tools is required. Familiarity with TTC transponders, Payload Data Transmitters for Earth Observation and other spacecraft subsystems technology design and testing is an asset. Knowledge on Authentication and Encryption schemes as applied to TTCPDT systems, in addition to cyber security aspects, is also an asset.
