Job Description For our client, the European Space Agency ESA, we are looking for a Software and Validation OnBoard and Ground Engineer for their location in Noordwijk, the Netherlands, to join their Flight Software System Section. Tasks and Responsibilities The contractor will be assigned to the Flight Software Systems Section of the Software Systems Division and will be in charge of the following initial tasks Project support related to all technical aspects development and qualification of flight software General Support to Software Validation Facilities and Avionics Test Bench infrastructure activities. Requirements A Masters degree or equivalent qualification in Electronic Engineering, Space Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related discipline. Specific tasks to be performed Providing expert technical support and consultancy to ESA projects, programmes and general studies in the field of space antenna systems, submillimeter wave instruments and associated technologies throughout all project phases Participating in project reviews and performing inhouse design and tradeoffs to support projectspecific technology developments Identifying critical development problems and assisting in their resolution Antenna measurement laboratory activities as required Defining, initiating and monitoring RD activities covering both longand shortterm needs Monitoring applicable scientific and technological trends and maintaining stateoftheart expertise. General tasks to be performed Preparing and monitoring Research and Development activities in the field of Antennas. A diverse range of tasks will have to be carried out by the contractor within the above activity domain, encompassing hardware, software and system aspects. Provide antenna technical support to ESA projects. This includes inhouse design and tradeoff studies to support both developments and reviews. Tasks will require the analysis and design of reflector antennas and arrays and the calculation of the interference effects between antennas and the spacecraft structure. Note that for these two areas, the work package will support all antenna development stages from design, analysis up to measurements. To successfully perform the above mentioned tasks, the following background experience is required Master degree in relevant study. Industrial experience in antennas, architectures and technologies as applied to space is a major asset. Knowledge of antenna Space constraints at RF, mechanical, thermal and environmental levels gained from the handling of Flight Model development or RD development at high TRL level. Knowledge of antenna industrial manufacturing, testing processes, architecture and technologies. Expertise in using antenna modelling tools GRASP8, POS4, CHAMP, HFSS. It encompasses signal structure, modulations, data dissemination, techniques for error correction, synchronisation, multipath mitigation and estimation, interference mitigation, cancellation, encryption, authentication, etc. Radio Navigation Laboratory equipment. The work includes definition procurement design, testing, usage of Radio Navigation equipment in support to Radio Navigation experiments and test campaigns. Assistance in preparation of invitation to tenders related to ESA Projects and RD activities and contracts technical followup. Specific engineering support to space projects developed by ESA andor by major European industriesoperators. Validation of designs by means of analyses, simulations, laboratory testing and field trials possibly in cooperation with third parties. Design, implementation and testing tasks for technological projects. Execution of internal RD activities through design, prototyping, analysis and simulations. Simulation and testing in laboratory of Navigation systems and equipment. Preparation of technical documents on above subjects. Support to related demonstrations inside and outside ESTEC. The work concerning laboratory activities will be performed based on the existing Radio Navigation facilities available at ESTEC. To successfully perform the above mentioned tasks, the following background experience is required Master degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Physics or Aerospace Engineering. Specific knowledge in the design and testing of Radio Navigation systems and equipment. Strong knowledge on the design of satellite navigation systems, ranging and positioning techniques, RF, signal processing techniques, and digital navigation receivers. Relevant experience with the GNSS1, EGNOS andor GALILEO systems and equipment and have and good knowledge of Radio Navigation simulation and testing systems. Proven experience in the implementation, maintenance and operation of complex Radio Navigation simulation and test facilities for spacecraft, aircraft, maritime and land mobile applications.
