It employs some 40,000 employees generating revenues of approximately 14 billion per year. A vacancy for a Systems and Software Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Guildford. The Systems and Software Engineers role is varied and covers some business as usual more routine processing tasks within the Hosted Services Team, along with system maintenance, software development, and scripting. The candidate is required to be diligent and flexible. Tasks are varied and cover various disciplines. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Maintaining complex configuration across multiple systems that are critical to correct operation. It is essential that changes are both understood and can be reversed in case of error. Processing tasks need to be recorded accurately to support future problem investigation and track progress. Scripting as well as running scripts for more routine work, there is an expectation that the scripts will be improved over time to increase quality and performance as opportunity allows. Software Engineering there will be tasks that require existing code to be modified or extended as well as sometimes requiring new code. The candidate will be supporting both senior and more junior staffs which are domain experts in their respective fields. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Degree in IT Software Engineering with proven related experience in a similar applications support role, especially hosted services with offsite systems. Experience in Software Development Java would be desirable. Experience of Data Processing Knowledge of OGC standards would be appreciated. Experience supporting Software Engineering software changes testing. Systems Support Linux Windows, experience with Bash. Experience in the use of SQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle and ODBC would be beneficial. ITIL awareness and experience within service management would be advantageous. Knowledge of Geospatial Information Systems GIS is desirable. Skills in GWT, PostgreSQLPostGIS, Python, JavaScript AngularJS would be desirable. Attention to detail and Team working skills. The key person will be in charge of the definition of the overall operational concept from the interface with industry up to the uplink of the new software images to the satellites. Heshe will produce the OBSW Ops Guide and related operation procedures. Heshe will be responsible for the end to end operational concept to manage reference and characterisation Databases being delivered to EUMETSAT. This also includes operational interfaces with industry. The key person will define for each type of database its life cycle and configuration control for operation usage. The key person will manage the Operational database against changes to successive Satellite Reference Databases deliveries. Heshe will provide a single interface within OPIT for the Satellite and Instrument Characteristic Databases and support FDF and PDAP experts for their respective Databases. Heshe will contribute to OICDs with external partners with respect to OBSW and Databases items. The key person will manage Ops Prep database editor tool and OBSW tool environments. Heshe will support the setting up of the OPS Configuration Management CM tool to manage satellite and ground configuration control. Heshe will coordinate the needs for operational configurations of the OBSW tools, procedures and Databases for a multi ground segment environments OPE, VAL, ENG and multisatellites. Heshe will support the MCO and PDAP ground segment development teams as Ops Prep representative with respect to OBSW and Databases interfaces and tools... PROFILE In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Key person shall have a demonstrated experience of at least three years in the field of spacecraft and ground segment operations with specific experience as follow Satellite operation preparation and routine operations phases OBSW maintenance expertise with good knowledge of Configuration Management CM processes for both ground images and onboard memory management Satellite Databases management in the frame of the operation preparation phase Experience on Operation Preparation tools such as procedure editor and databases management tools Familiarity with the definition of operational interfaces and interactions with industry or external partners. Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage for the Key person to have experience with some of the following Knowledge of the ECSS E7041 Telemetry Telecommand Packet Utilisation standard Knowledge of the mission control systems SCOS and OBSM application Knowledge of the mission control systems SCOS MIB and SCOS MIB editors e.g. DABYS Knowledge of SQL and database management tools Some programming and scripting skills would also be an asset. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the Engineer must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other. Terma Space operates out of Denmark, The Netherlands, Germany, and the UK. Job description For our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking an Software Build and Deployment Engineer. You will work in the TSS Technical and Scientific Support Departments GSI Generic Systems and Infrastructure Division, supporting all Ground Segment Commissioning and Routine Operations. These Ground Systems monitor and control EUMETSATs MTP, MSG and METOP satellites and process and distribute all data from their instrument payloads. They will be extended in the near future to support further missions. Responsibilities As a member of the CSM Software Librarian team, you shall provide support to the development and maintenance of all current and future operational ground segments. The main duties are the maintenance and the redesign of the asbuilt software build environments and the building, packaging and distribution of any software that can be built onsite. Furthermore the duties include a range of tasks, from support to the operation of the UNIX and Windowsbased ground segment facilities, to the analysis, design, development, testing, and maintenance of software functions. They also include the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures as well as the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. In particular the tasks will include Maintenance and development of the asbuilt software build environments Building, packaging and distribution of software releases and patches Support to programmers with respect to software build and development strategies Support the delivery of software externally developed its installation, configuration and testing Investigation into anomalies, their documentation and classification follow up of the delivery of SW corrections Participation in technical meetings and formal reviews Analysis of the maintenance requirements and identification, procurement or implementation of the tools to fulfil them writing of maintenance procedures Interfacing with external contractors who are providing maintenance services for ground segment facilities This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date as soon as possible. The will be carried out mainly at EUMETSAT facilities in Darmstadt, Germany, but travel within Europe may be required for certain activities. Standby callout support and provision of support to critical operations, may sometimes be required. Qualifications Competencies In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, you shall have experience of SW development, configuration controlled software build environments, and experience in SW packaging, installation and configuration for the operation and maintenance of large, realtime Monitoring Control Data Processing systems. You shall have significant work experience in Unix and Unixlike Operating System environments and in Windows and Windows Serverbased environments. You should be familiar, to the extent required by the performance of the above tasks, with networking, distributed applications, and TCPIP services.
