Recycled Polyester Prices in China (Monthly Report)

Recycled polyester prices have heavily fallen in the past weeks in China, after virgin fiber prices have begun plunging. Market prices have however stabilized in the past days, as observed with rival virgin fibers. The high level of material costs is reducing profits at Re-PSF and Re-POY plants. Our report covers the recycled polyester PSF and POY prices in China over the past 3 years. Re-PSF and Re-POY prices are compared with similar virgin fiber prices for PSF and POY prices. Nylon 6 prices have sharply fallen in the last weeks in China amid an overall decline of nylon chain prices, including caprolactam, nylon slices, POY, FDY and DTY. Operating rates have been significantly lowered at CPL plants whereas inventories were being digested. Nylon chain prices could now stabilize or even bottom out. Our monthly report covers the latest and long-term trends of nylon 6 (polyamide 6) prices, also displaying a vertical view of the nylon chain prices, including benzene, caprolactam, staple fibers and filament yarns. Polyester fiber prices have bottomed out in China, over a sharp decline of inventories at fiber plants. Lower operating rates are also supporting staple fiber and filament prices. With material costs further dropping however, any rebound in prices could be short-lived.
