System Operations Engineering Support Mission Performance Team

ACS is looking for a consultancy support for a System Operations Engineer required to operate EUMETSATs operational systems, with particular focus on realtime endtoend mission operations and the systems required to support and monitor them. This includes Event Monitoring GEMS, system endtoend monitoring SMART, user notification systems UNSUMS, system monitoring NAGIOS, GMC, system monitoring infrastructure MASIF, as well as support to the coordination and management of the overall system performance monitoring. The post is required for the routine operations phases of the MSG and EPS systems, and to support the preparation of future missions. Specific support will be required to the Copernicus Sentinel3 programme. ACS has more than 30 years experience in delivering solutions for Earth Observation satellites Ground Segments. As a member of RSO, the Key Person shall provide support to the mission performance of the MSG Ground Segment and the EPS Overall Ground System OGS, as well as their evolution, as well as to the future programmes. Main duties will include the support to System operations in a realtime operations environment Endtoend operations monitoring User messaging systems configuration and operation Configuration of event monitoring and endtoend monitoring systems Monitoring infrastructure configuration and operation Multimission element and infrastructure operations Mission Performance System Evolutions for existing and new programmes The Key person shall perform the following tasks The Key Person will be responsible for the definition andor maintenance of the routine operations procedures pertaining to mission performance operations and the interfaces of the key systems within the ground segment, in accordance with the established EUMETSAT Operations Department configuration management and quality assurance practices. As part of the operations evolution, the key person will be responsible for the redesign and evolution of the mission performance systems to support existing and new programmes. The Key Person will acquire and maintain a Systemwide view of the MSG System, and the EPS CGS and OGS, particularly in the areas of system endtoend monitoring control and data flows. The Key Person will review any planned changes to the mission performance system configurations for LEO and GEO ground segments, and support the investigation of anomalies encountered through the routine system and ground segment operations. The Key Person will provide support to the development and operations preparation for recurrent satellites in existing operational programs e.g. MetopC and MSG4, and for future operational programs now in development including Sentinel3, MTG and EPSSG. The key person will interface with project teams on the implementation of system upgrades to support major operations projects, including System MidTerm Evolution Plan, recurrent satellites, and any System hardware and operating system obsolescence upgrade. The Key Person will perform the following routine operations tasks Definition and maintenance of system operations procedures, including System and ground segment procedures and operations guides Liaison with the spacecraft operations team to ensure the continuity and optimisation of spacecraft monitoring and control activities Liaison with the ground segment facility operations teams and system operations analysts to ensure the continuity and optimisation of ground segment and mission operations through procedure and operations guide updates, configuration changes, database or user interface changes etc. Support to the definition of the Operations Service Specification Interface with the systems maintenance teams and industry representatives to ensure optimised performance, including participating in the definition and implementation of any changes to the mission performance systems Provision of support to operational ground segment analyses Provision of standbyoncall support as system operations engineer, on an as needed basis. This will be coordinated through the normal oncall process Provision of support, as required, to critical operations Processing of mission performance related system anomalies, their documentation, investigation, classification and resolutionmitigation, including participation in Anomaly Review Boards Participation in technical meetings, formal reviews, and scheduling and planning meetings Processing of system modifications, including their documentation, approval, and implementation, including participation in Change Review Boards Support to, and participation in, the functional verification and operational validation of mission performance system upgrades and evolutions, both standalone and in the context of an overall ground segment Liaison with various department and divisions within EUMETSAT CM, QA, Management, Product Experts, User Services Provision of training, through written materials, practical demonstrations and presentations, to other members of the Operations Team. In addition to having a university degree or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline, the Key Person shall have the following mandatory attributes at least five year experience of endtoend system operations in a realtime spacecraft operations environment at least three year work experience in the operation of mission monitoring systems at least 3 year experience in the definition, development, integration and acceptance testing of mission data monitoring systems at least three year work experience defining and implementing the verification and validation of ground segment systems. Recent experience of the following, in an operational context, would be a distinct advantage experience at least three years in the operations preparation and routine operations of Geostationary GEO and Low Earth Orbit LEO satellite systems experience of configuration and monitoring using NAGIOS experience with the definition and analysis of operational user requirements experience of using configuration management systems such as CVS familiarity with ECSS and CCSDS standards related to spacetoground interfaces and applicable to Satellite Monitoring Control Systems Packet Telemetry and Telecommand standards, PUS Packet Utilisation Standard, etc. Windows Unix Linux operating systems. The working language for the position is English and therefore the Key Person must be able to work effectively in this language. Senior Software Engineer Mission Control System Support Sentinel3 mf Ref.Nr. 158521 The Mission Our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, is preparing for the operations of the Copernicus Sentinel3 mission. The mission is to measure seasurface topography, sea and landsurface temperature and ocean and landsurface colour with highend accuracy and reliability in support of ocean forecasting systems, and for environmental and climate monitoring. The first of two Sentinel3 spacecraft is planned to be launched in mid2015. The Challenge We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer for Mission Control System Support, to be located at the customers site, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany. The main area of responsibility of this position is for supporting to the evolution and maintenance of the Sentinel3 Mission Control System. The Sentinel3 Mission Control System is built from MICONYS software components such as SCOS2000, FARC, PARC and NIS. The tasks to be undertaken typically include Maintenance and Evolution Activities Reengineering activities analysis of the porting of some subsystems to stateofthe art technologies, tradeoff studies of various technologies, software design of the technical solutions, following the procurement of the changes with external contractors and verification testing of the changes Evolutions and changes generation andor analysis of userdriven and maintenancedriven software requirements, software design of the technical solutions, following the procurement of the changes with external contractors and verification testing of the changes Preventive and corrective maintenance including the investigation and correction or following the corrections implemented by external contractors of anomalies in the software facilities and verification testing of the fixes Maintenance test procedures generation and updates of maintenance test procedures at software facility level and at system level Support and development of the verification infrastructure development andor procurement of scripts I tools to perform installation checks, nonregression, functional and performance testing. Analysis and implementation of mechanisms or tools allowing the automatic or semiautomatic verification testing of the application software Coordination of the production of new software releases or patches delivery acceptance and installation onsite. This activity includes the technical coordination of the production by an external contractor of new releases or patches of the application software, liaison with the EUMETSAT operational users, participation to technical reviews, participation to infactory at contractor premises acceptance testing campaigns and coordination of the installation of the releases or patches onsite at EUMETSAT Execution and coordination of software verification and nonregression testing campaigns. This activity includes preparation of test data, running the test procedures on the target system, generation of test reports, and analysis of results and troubleshooting of problems User Support Software support software support to the endusers of the application software. Ensure operations continuity by provision of oncall services and software support to operations. Training prepare and provide training covering usage and maintenance aspects of the application software Technical Management Documentation generation and updates of technical documents Meeting participation participation to technical, progress and team meetings as needed and requested Routine reporting preparation and production of routine reports as necessary Technical point of contact for maintenance contractors acting as point of contact with the contractor for technical discussions, review of technical documentation from the contractor, organizing periodical technical meetings with the contractor This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date in May 2015. Interviews at the customer site for the position are planned between 9th and 20th March. Your Qualifications In addition to having a University degree in a relevant engineering discipline, you are needed to have skills and experience in software maintenance, evolution and testing with the following areas Domain Skills Extensive experience minimum 5 years in software maintenance and evolution of Satellite Mission Control Systems based on MICONYS software suite from ESAESOC. In particular experience in all the following MICONYS components is considered mandatory SCOS2000, SLE API, FARC, PARC and NIS Knowledge and understanding with actual working experience of space related standards ECSS and CCSDS concerning spacetoground interfaces and applicable to Satellite Mission Control Systems such as ECSS Packet Utilisation Standard PUS, CCSDS Space Packet Protocol SPP and CCSDS Space Link Extension Protocol SLE Software Development Maintenance Skills Extensive experience minimum 5 years in the full cycle of development of application software, preferably for Satellite Mission Control Systems, following formal software engineering processes. This includes user and system requirement analysis, software requirement engineering, software design and implementation reflecting maintenance activities as well as new applications definition Experience minimum 3 years in corrective maintenance, integration and verification testing activities of application software for Satellite Mission Control Systems following formal software engineering processes.
