Oracle wins appeal over Java infringement by Google

(Telecompaper) Google's use of Java APIs to develop Android went too far and was a violation of Oracle's copyrights, according to a ruling by the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, reports Bloomberg. The case, first filed in 2010 by Oracle, was remanded to a federal court in California to determine how much Google should pay. Oracle had been seeking USD 8.8 billion.

Job description For our customer, the European Space Agency ESA, we are seeking to recruit an experienced Oracle Developer to work at ESAs ESTEC site in Noordwijk, The HagueAmsterdam area, in the Netherlands. Responsibilities You will be assigned to support ESAESTECs Directorate of Technical and Quality Management TEC in the maintenance, operations, and evolution of the Directorates Management Information Systems. This includes updates andor development of new applications and databases covering the following business needs Planning, controlling and reporting of activities or programmes Planning, controlling and reporting budget and financial resources Resource management, manpower planning, time recording charging, etc. Data Warehouse concepts ExtractTransformLoad applications to support reporting and business intelligence needs. The work will be divided into the following tasks. Task 1 Application Development Definition, design, implementation, testing, and deployment of new applications mainly web based to support the Directorates business processes. Specifically Perform business process analysis for potential local applications and develop and maintain software requirements in coordination with application users. Identification of requirements for interfacing with ESA Corporate applications and the design and implementation of related interfaces with directoratespecific local applications, in coordination with related design authorities in ESA. Produce requirements and project documentation in close liaison with the customers and in line with the project management procedures. Establish and maintain development, testing and production environments suitable to install and execute source code components. Plan, document and execute tests for each software unit and integrated software component ensuring that it satisfies its requirements and document the results. Document and establish a deployment plan in agreement with ESA before each software rollout. Task 2 Application Maintenance and Operations Maintenance encompasses modifications that fix application problems caused by design, logic, or coding errors. This type of maintenance is often triggered by an explicit service desk ticket or problem report and often involves errors that must be addressed immediately. Maintaining, supporting, and evolving where required the assigned applications and databases. Maintain a software configuration control and operational plan. Coordination of any service downtime for routine maintenance or problem resolution. This may require activities to be performed out of normal hours. Definition of a release plan in order to minimize disruptions and informing the user community of planned and unplanned downtime. Task 3 Application and User Support In the scope of user support you shall provide support to the user community mostly administrative in the following areas Secondline support to the user community in their daytoday usage of the applicationsdatabases. Provide expert advice regarding database functionality e.g. on configuration and manipulation. Provision of trainings on request and set up of a sandbox environment to support this. Qualifications Competencies The successful candidate will have a Masters Degree in Information Technology or similar with a minimum of 4 years of relevant professional working experience.
