This vacancy note concerns an onsite consulting position at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany. Mission Planning System Software Engineer 1613138 Job Description The key person will work in the TSS Department supporting the Mission Control Applications and Tools Team, which is part of the GSI Division. Some of your key tasks will include Maintenance and Evolution Activities Reengineering activities analysis of the porting of some subsystems to stateoftheart technologies, tradeoff studies of various technologies, software design of the technical solutions, following the procurement of the changes with external contractors and verification testing of the changes. Preventive and corrective maintenance including the investigation and correction or following the corrections implemented by external contractors of anomalies in the software facilities and verification testing of the fixes. Support and development of the verification infrastructure development andor procurement of scripts tools to perform installation checks, nonregression, functional and performance testing. Analysis and implementation of mechanisms or tools allowing the automatic or semiautomatic verification testing of the application software. Coordination of the production of new software releases or patches, delivery acceptance and installation onsite. This activity includes the technical coordination of the production by an external contractor of new releases or patches of the application software, liaison with the EUMETSAT operational users, participation in technical reviews, participation in factory at contractor premises acceptance testing campaigns and coordination of the installation of the releases or patches onsite at EUMETSAT. Support to new Missions PhaseB activities Requirements engineering Participation in the functional analysis and decomposition of the Ground Segment requirements in the domain of Mission Planning System. Support the definition of Ground Segment requirements in the area of the Mission Planning System. Participation in workshops and review meetings. Support the identification of the verification method and initial test cases for the Mission Planning System requirements. Incorporate the reuse of the EUMETSAT Mission Planning System kernel products in the Ground Segment requirements. Interfacing with the Mission Planning System kernel product experts in the MCA Team to coordinate their contributions to the requirements definition. System Architectural design Support the generation of the architectural system level design of the Mission Planning System as part of the Ground Segment. Support the production of design models using Systems Engineering and CASE tools. Support the definition and documentation of all interfaces IRDsICDs between the elements of the Mission Planning System and other Ground Segment or external elements. Support to new Missions PhaseCD activities Support to Mission Planning System implementation Support to the requirement and design engineering activities as part of the applications development. Participation and contribution in requirements, design and implementation reviews both internal and with external contractors. Follow the software development by external contractors of the Mission Planning System. Support to IVV and Acceptance Participation in verification readiness reviews and verification testing campaigns both internal and with external contractors. Technical coordination of the parallel activities involving the EUMETSAT Mission Planning Systems for LEO missions which include the maintenance and evolution for missions under routine operations, reengineering activities and the reuse of the EUMETSAT Mission Planning System in new Programmes. Required Skills and Experience A university degree in a relevant engineering discipline Demonstrate significant knowledge and experience in the area of specification, design, implementation, verification and maintenance of Mission Planning Systems. Specific skills and experience are mandatory in the following areas 1. Domain Skills Experience minimum 5 years in the definition of software requirements, architectural design, implementation and maintenance of Mission Planning Systems in the context of Low Earth Orbit LEO space missions. 2. Software Development, Verification Maintenance Skills Experience minimum 5 years in the full cycle of development and maintenance of application software, preferably for Mission Planning Systems, following formal software engineering processes. This includes user and system requirement analysis, software requirement engineering, software design, implementation, corrective and evolutive maintenance activities. Experience minimum 3 years in IVV integration, verification and validation activities, preferably for Mission Planning Systems, following formal engineering processes. This includes requirement verification, system and subsystem integration, generation of test plan and test procedures, nonregression testing, generation of test data, generation of test tools, running the test procedures on the target system, generation of test reports and anomaly tracking. 3. Software Engineering Skills minimum 3 years Designing and developing software applications using C and Java programming languages for UNIXLinux operating systems. Designing and developing software applications using interfaces to relational database management systems RDBMS and experience with data model design for RDBMS. Designing and developing software applications using JBoss Drools as business rule management system. Desirable Skills and Experience Domain Skills Experience in integration of Mission Planning Systems with Mission Control Systems based on MICONYS software suite from ESAESOC. Experience in integration of Mission Planning Systems with Flight Dynamics Systems. Experience in support to flight control operations teams for Mission Planning Systems. System Maintenance Skills Experience in being the technical point of contact for contractors working at offsite premises and responsible for application software evolution and maintenance. Software Technology Skills Experience in the usage of software CASE design tools e.g. Enterprise Architect andor MagicDraw. Experience in using Unified Modelling Language UML for software design. Experience in developing software applications interfacing with Oracle RDBMS. Experience with Oracle RDBMS administration. Experience with ILOG Views visualization library. XML processing schema design, validation, parser libraries, transformation XSLT and XPath. Experience in designing, developing and maintaining software client applications using Eclipse as HMI framework Rich Client Platform. Experience in designing and developing component based software applications using formal techniques e.g. OSGi. Experience using tools for the automation of software testing. These tasks typically include Supporting the EPSSG ground segment team in the development and procurement of the MPS and any related tools Analysing and reviewing relevant EPSSG documentation, preparing technical notes and attending technical meetings Participating in reviews for the MPS and, when necessary, interfacing facilities and associated tools, throughout the procurement lifecycle Participating in MPS factory or onsite acceptance testing and related activities at facility and system level. If necessary, creating and executing test procedures to support this activity Analysing reporting on test results, in particular with respect to requirement verification and validation Proposing changes to the MPS or related tools for instance to modify some aspect of the software functionality, and contributing to the process for implementing such changes change justification, baseline requirements update, issuing the change request, liaison with external contractors, etc Raising, monitoring and steering the lifecycle of MPS related anomaly reports ARs and nonconformance reports NCRs. Supplying context and analysis to support the investigation of anomalies Participating in the installation of the MPS and related tools at EUMETSAT. Verifying the installation Defining the MPS operational implementation rules, database structures, etc and maintaining a detailed understanding of the space and ground segment operational needs that are met through mission planning Producing and maintaining MPS related documentation such as the Operational Implementation document and the MPS User Operations Guide Interacting with internal users, suppliers and partner organisations Providing procurement support to other future missions, notably JasonCS, if required
