Google to launch smartphones under Pixel brand - report

(Telecompaper) Google plans to introduce new smartphones under the names Pixel and Pixel XL, reports the blog Android Police. The two smartphones have the project names Marlin and Sailfish and would be the first from Google not to use the Nexus brand. According to the report, the Pixel phones would not run stock Android as the Nexus devices do, but instead Google's own variant of Android 7.0 HTC is thought to be the manufacturer of the devices, which will be presented on 04 October. Google already offers a tablet under the name Pixel-C.

Over 83% of Japan mobile customers use smartphones

(Telecompaper) Over 83.8 percent of Japan's mobile phone customer base are customer using smartphones, which represents an increase of 6.9 percent year-on-year. The remaining 16.3 percent are feature phone users, according to a report from the Communications and Information network Association of Japan (CIAJ). Smartphone use among respondents in their teens, twenties and thirties was nearly or had reached 100 percent, the report also shows.

Pokémon Go, the augmented-reality smartphone game that's been eating away at the fabric of society in recent weeks, is enormously fun. I enjoy the mechanics, and that it pushes me to go on longer walks. That's all well and good in the nicer weather, but when there's two feet of snow, I don't really want to traipse around so much. That's why Pokédrone might be my new favorite thing.
