Flight Dynamics Engineer Key Tasks and Responsibilities The European Space Operations Centre ESOC conducts mission operations for ESA satellites and establishes, operates and maintains the necessary ground segment infrastructure. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience University degree in mathematics, physics, informatics, computer science, aerospace engineering or equivalent Detailed technical background in the above mentioned activities including Mathematical and stochastic methods and processes, applied Mathematics Classical and Celestial Mechanics Satellite systems and payload e.g. AOCS, star trackers, propulsion etc Software Engineering Orbit dynamics, Orbit determination and prediction Operations support for flight dynamics Satellite tracking and data processing techniques Knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of the operational Software Knowledge of operational procedures for nominal and contingency scenarios Quick, high quality responses to situations arising during critical operations, including quasirealtime modifications of the operational software Ideally knowledge of relevant standards, including ECSS and CCSDS Fluency in English mandatory knowledge of another European language an advantage. User Support o Software support software support to the endusers of the application software. o Ensure operations continuity by provision of oncall services and software support to operations. o Training prepare and provide training covering usage and maintenance aspects of the application software. Technical Management o Documentation generation and updates of technical documents. o Meeting participation participation to technical, progress and team meetings as needed and requested. o Routine reporting preparation and production of routine reports as necessary. o Technical point of contact for maintenance contractors acting as point of contact with the contractor for technical discussions, review of technical documentation from the contractor, organizing periodical technical meetings with the contractor. Experience and education In addition to having a University degree in a relevant engineering discipline the Consultant shall have skills and experience in software maintenance, evolution and testing with the following mandatory areas Domain Skills o Experience minimum 3 years in the design, development andor customisation of Satellite Flight Dynamics Systems in the context of LEO missions. System Development Maintenance Skills o Experience minimum 3 years in the full cycle of development of application software, preferably for Satellite Flight Dynamics Systems, following formal software engineering processes. This includes user and system requirement analysis, software requirement engineering, software design and implementation reflecting maintenance activities as well as new applications definition. o Experience minimum 3 years in corrective maintenance, integration and verification testing activities of application software for Satellite Flight Dynamics Systems following formal software engineering processes. This includes requirement verification, generation of test plan and test procedures, nonregression testing, generation of test data, generation of test tools, running the test procedures on the target system, generation of test reports, and anomaly tracking, investigation, correction and testing. Software Engineering Skills o Experience minimum 3 years in designing and developing software components and applications using Object Oriented 00 approach including design patterns. o Experience minimum 3 years in designing and developing software applications using Java and related technologies. o Experience minimum 3 years in developing software applications using Eclipse SDE Smart Development Environment and related projects and addons. It would be a distinct advantage for the Consultant to have knowledge andor experience with some of the following Domain Skills o Experience with software development and maintenance of Satellite Flight Dynamics Systems and Tools based on the ESAESOC NAPEOS Navigation Package for Earth Observation Satellite. o Experience with software development and maintenance of Tools using the Orekit space dynamics library. o Knowledge of Satellite Mission Control Systems. o Knowledge of Mission Planning Systems. o Experience with software support to operations for Satellite Flight Dynamics Systems.
