Communication Officer for Science Directorate

Overview Support the ESA Science Directorateon the following specific tasks Act as Senior Editor for the Science and Technology pages of the Science directorate, including the commissioning, editing and writing ofarticles and updates. Act as administrator of the Science Editorial Board to review newsrequests and coordinate the publication agenda. Act as Point of Contact for science missions internally ESA projectscientist and managers and externally Mission Science teams andcommunication partners. Under the responsibility of the Science Programme CommunicationOfficer, support the drafting and implementation of annual and missioncommunication plans. Organisation of media events, including briefing of speakers andfollowup of requests from media. Setup of outreach events agreed in the Science and ExplorationDomain communication plan. Support to launch and mission events and tasks and events defined inpartnership and cooperation agreements. Conception and conduct of social media campaigns, including themanagement of Science related social media accounts. Conception, editing and writing of stories for ESA science portal andSciTech pages in English. Obtain the necessary internal approval for publication. Conception of storyboards for videos, animations and social mediaassets. Represent ESA at scienceoutreachcommunication conferences bygiving presentations and to maintain and develop relationships with otherscience communicators and update own knowledge. Specific qualification requirements University degree at least MSc in Astronomy, Planetary Science,or Astrophysics. Minimum of8 years experience in the relevant field. Experience in Science, engineering or technological communication. Indepth knowledge of the missions and topics of ESAs ScienceProgramme. A good synthesisability and a thorough understanding and interest for science is needed International Media and Social media. Good interaction skills and capacity to work under stressful situations. A fair knowledge in the following areas will be considered an additionaladvantageScience communicationsAudiovisual requirementsGraphic design and layoutSocial media. Fluency in English both written and spoken is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an advantage. Legal and Security Requirements All applicants must be legally allowed to work in The Netherlands Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Aurora will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA. Prior to issuing a letter of employment the applicant shall provide to Aurora a recent official document declaring that they are of good conduct from the country where currently resident. Location The work will be performed at the European Space Technology and Research Centre ESTEC at Noordwijk, The Netherlands. Contract The selected candidate will receive good remuneration in line withESA Job Class. Will be registered for both social security and tax in the Netherlands. The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 30 annual days holiday. Training to improve efficiency and provide strength for future career are of course included. Aurora assist with relocation both with support and financially. Overview The task covers the daily operation, maintenance and change controlfor records in the Navigation Directorates Documentation andConfiguration Management System. This includes the participationin and to support improvements of the processes related to the use ofelectronic documentation and configuration systems, managementtools e.g. for action tracking and other relevant IT tools. Thedocumentation and configuration tasks are rendered by Configuration and Data Management team to given programmes, projects and specific organizationalentities within the Navigation Directorate. It includes the following regular duties in particular Document registration, distribution and archiving, as well asprovision of reproduction services of documents and media. Regular review of the status of documents in the different archiveand storage locations and align this information in theDocumentation and Configuration Management System database. Processing configuration controlled document changes and officialpapers relevant to the activities of the unit. Generation and maintenance of documentation and configurationtracking lists. Support to the management of the User Account List to the Directorates servers and services. Support to users for entering and retrieving documents from variousDocumentation and Configuration Management related serversystems internally and externally. Liaising with industrial partners CADM officers anddocumentalists for exchanging data and resolving documentation andconfiguration related issues. Provision of paper copies of electronic documents on request,creation of electronic versions of documents and management oforiginal files. Support to all documentation and configuration related tasks fortechnical and nontechnical reviews. Support to the Directorate Document Records Officer DDRO indischarging relevant functions. The position reports to the Head of the Configuration and DataManagement unit. The above tasks must be implemented in line withapplicable Directorates Configuration Management processes andstandards in close collaboration with relevant CM responsibles. Specific qualification requirements University degree Bachelor from a recognized Institution ofsecondary studies or equivalent qualification with substantial coverage of configuration and documentation management matters. The minimum of 4years of relevant experience. The work associated to this position can require handling ofclassified documentation. The candidate shall confirm to be eligibleand willing to apply to a Personal Security Clearance. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and customer focus. Ability to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverseand international team environment. Fluent in the English language spoken and written. Knowledge of another European language is an asset.
