A vacancy has arisen for a Principal Stress Engineer with Astrium in Stevenage. Working on Earth Observation and Science missions, and Commercial Telecoms Satellites, the team will be embarking on some brand new developments in technology over the coming years, and this is an opportunity to be involved with projects from concept through to delivery of hardware. We are looking for Lead Engineers with strong technical capability, with the ability to manage projects and support junior engineers, who are looking to follow a wellestablished career framework.The successful candidate will independently lead major projects and design teams, and will be responsible for maintaining a high degree of technical competency in their specialised field. The key responsibilities of the role are as follows Independently plan analysis campaign for team and ensure completion of all tasks required, in the allocated time, to demonstrate that the structure design meets its strength and stiffness requirements. Perform or supervise all structural analysis necessary to ensure that all strength and stiffness requirements are met with a minimum mass design. Ensure that the design incorporates all features necessary to meet the strength and stiffness requirements. Provide a detailed definition of all structural testing required to verify that the strength and stiffness requirements are met. Monitor these tests and issue a test assessment report that demonstrates that requirements have been met and that the pretest analysis was of sufficient accuracy. Write clear and concise strength summary reports demonstrating adequate strength margins for all significant possible modes of failure. Write other associated analysis documentation. Provide design support to manufacture to ensure that strength and stiffness requirements are met for all nonconformances to design with appropriate corrective action. Present strength and stiffness analyses and test requirements and assessments at formal design reviews. Prepare and maintain work plans, schedules, work package descriptions and costs. The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and experience Educated to Degree Level or equivalent in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering, or similar related discipline Extensive experience of Stress Engineering, ideally within the Aerospace or Space Sector Appreciation of the relevant design drivers and associated manufacturing issues in their specialist field To be conversant with and to apply as appropriate, analysis techniques and methods for light weight structures strength and stiffness prediction that are generally common to spacecraft structures analysis. These will include classical hand analysis and computer techniques including the use of the industry standard finite element programme with prepost processing software Able to establish and execute work plan and cost estimate for projects Experience of training, advising and supervising team members Excellent presentation and communication skills An in depth knowledge of Nastran Knowledge of Femap andor MathCAD is desirable TO APPLY click here

Principal Product Assurance Engineer

A vacancy has arisen for a Principal Product Assurance Engineer with Astrium in Stevenage. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the relevant quality assurance controls of a project including hardware, software and services are in accordance with the contractual requirements and those compatible with Astriums Quality Management System. The key responsibilities of the role are as follows Ensure an adequate, effective and efficient implementation of Product Assurance activities is achieved through successful integration with all management and engineering activities. Tasks include Generate and implement a project Product Assurance Safety Plan Assure the qualification and verification programme is defined and completed Ensuring that all the subcontractor PA requirements, based on the knowledge of the products and the Customers requirements, are defined and implemented Identifying and coordinating resources and trained personnel assigned to the various supplier PA activities Convening regular progress meetings with PA disciplines and reporting Coordinate and provide PA inputs for project design reviews Ensure that all Parts, Materials and Processes are approved for flight Undertake Inspections and audits as required MIPs, KIPs, etc. Control the management of nonconformances and associated tools Convene and chair Nonconformance Review Boards attend Configuration Control Boards, Test Reviews, as applicable Participate and support in risk assessment and mitigation plans Manage the process for requests for waiverdeviation from suppliers to customer Review and action the alert and warning notes systematically, ensuring their flow down and implementation by subcontractors and maintaining records Manage the project audit schedule and associated audit reportsactions, including inspections including supplier audits Ensure the Equipment Qualification Status List is maintained for all equipments Ensure compliance to product liability legislation Review and approve the Certificate of Conformity CofC. The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and experience Degree or HNDHNC or specialist knowledge in relevant disciplines Experience of space programmes and ECSS standards is desirable Product AssuranceQuality Assurance experience on complexextensive electronics based systems EN9100ISO 9001auditing experience, supplier evaluation and monitoring Experience as a PA Engineer or other relevant experience Space, avionics or space environment experience Good team worker with strong interpersonal and persuasive skills Expert user and promoter of quality tools and methods, particularly risk management Desirable Experience of people management TO APPLY click here

A vacancy has arisen for an Equipments Product Assurance ManagerEngineer EPAM Principal Product Assurance Engineer with Astrium in Stevenage. The successful applicant will be responsible for the implementation of the Project Quality Assurance requirements to ensure that the delivered Equipment is compliant with the Customers Contractual Requirements. The key responsibilities are as follows Implementation of a product assurance plan. Ensuring that the quality requirements included within the Project Statement Of Work such as the Reviews identified in earlier sections are planned into the equipments schedule. Proactively seek to ensure that preventive actions are taken account of for known quality issues thus avoiding repetitive problems Lesson learned It will be necessary to work in a team environment and be able to provide valued inputs into the team, calling upon any specialist knowledge as appropriate. At times it may be necessary to cross boundaries to achieve the common aim or meet deadlines. Negotiating with external Customers and in house equipment suppliers regarding quality standardsrequirements, waivers, deviations, concessions, production easements etc. Will act where necessary as a single point contact for the resolution of all quality matters and ensure the inputs of Materials Engineering, EEE parts and other specialist disciplines are taken account of. Reviewing Company Standards and proposing changes where necessary to update working processes and to ensure that all equipment documents and drawings are signed by the relevant disciplines before signing and approving them for the configuration Control Board CCB to know they have been checked and approved by PA for all quality aspects. To maintain within the project adequate records to ensure that easy reference is available for monitoring past and present procedural or technical problems. To undertake system audits which assess whether all quality requirements have been addressed and have been or planned to be incorporated into the design solution. Random projectproduct audits will also be conducted to establish optimisation of processes and systems. Support to all Equipment Group disciplines in the creation of suitable, useful metrics, to measure effectiveness and to form a basis of improvement activities. Chairing Non Conformance Review Boards NRB for payload equipment reviews and providing delegated responsibility to Procurement PA for external payload equipments whilst maintaining the Customer interface responsibilities. Ensuring that first and second level closures adequately address the curative and corrective actions required. Undertake the review of nonconformance report statistics to ensure feedback is provided to Design AIT specialists as necessary. To perform other duties as requested by the Equipments head of quality. Principal Mechanical Design Engineer

As a Principle Engineer in the Mechanical Design Office, you will carry out Lead Designer activities for Propulsion Systems and Electrical Harness Routing design tasks. You will aslso oversee day to day activities for a small team of Design Engineers ensuring all customer requirements are supported. The key responsibilities of the role are as follows Responsible for the control, correctness, accuracy and relevance of all drawings, models, Digital Mock Up DMU, bills of materials and Engineering Change Notes as related to the configured items for allocated projects to cost and schedule Ensuring all outputs from the Mechanical Design Office MDO are correct to the project requirements as stated by the core team generally the Responsible Engineer Authorised design signatory for manufacturing drawings, BoMs and ECOs related to the allocated project Specific responsibility for the estimation and planning of Design Office related activities and manpower requirements to meet those tasks.
