EU looks at updating rules for public funding of broadband networks

(Telecompaper) The EU is looking to update its rules on government funding of broadband networks. The latest regulations on state aid for broadband date from 2013, but the market has changed since then, with new demands and technological innovations. As part of its 'Better Regulation' initiative, the European Commission launched a public consultation to gather input for a possible update of the broadband state aid regulations. Comments can be submitted until 05 January 2021.

US telcos say it will cost 1.6-1.8 bln to replace Huawei, ZTE equipment on their networks - FCC

(Telecompaper) The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has compiled a list of telecom carriers that say they use at least some Huawei and ZTE equipment or services in their networks. The filers in the list say it would cost USD 1.837 billion to remove and replace Huawei and ZTE equipment on their networks. The filers that qualify for reimbursement say it could require USD 1.618 billion to shift the equipment. Other providers may not yet have participated in the information collection and may still be eligible for reimbursement.

Affirmed Networks wins order from Netmore for private LTE equipment with 5G capacity

(Telecompaper) Affirmed Networks said that it has been selected by Swedish group Netmore to supply private LTE enterprise networks and infrastructure. This will enable Netmore to deploy 5G enterprise services, too, including IoT. Once fully deployed, Netmore's private enterprise networks will serve as the foundation for its continued expansion to enterprises and locations throughout Europe.
